stedge Posted September 5, 2023 Author Posted September 5, 2023 Just an update, I bought Woodpile’s Robin (thanks WP), and really enjoy the guitar. Been using a MB IIA, straight in. The neck is a comfy medium to medium plus (diff shape but about as full as my Talladega, fwiw), it plays well, and will be played a lot and out without worries. This one is a player, not a museum piece. Now, as I ponder a couple other guitars for sale here that are admittedly spectacular, I remain on the lookout for robins, as well. Yes, I have caught the bug. Because, yeah, I got one and it is that good. 3 Quote

stedge Posted September 7, 2023 Author Posted September 7, 2023 Yep, saw that. Familiar w what is on reverb and eBay as of yesterday, but none floatin’ my boat. Here the one i just snagged, with replaced knobs that i assume are closer to original, in a location i dont usually play (ie the living room), but it sounded good and was close to my vino. 2 Quote
The Shark Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 E-Type......with the Dirty Harry pickup 5 Quote

That E-type is very cool, btw. Quote

lang Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 (edited) One more e-type. I’ve pulled out the Dirty Harry pickup and put a glorious Gravelin in mine. LOVE the neck on this! (Please excuse the crappy pic -- but you get the idea!) Edited September 7, 2023 by lang 3 Quote

It's staying with the guitar, will go with it if I ever sell it. The Gravelin I've got in it is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s. Absolutely the right decision for me. 2 Quote
tubesrus Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 I saw a lot of Robins in Houston, the 10-inch radius was a deal breaker for me. 1 Quote
singlehum Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 (edited) Another E-type. I believe only six of these were made, with almost all having a different pickguard (don't get me started on the pickguards...) Edited September 11, 2023 by singlehum 1 Quote

I'm a bit surprised that aspect made it through whatever final inspection was done. I recall reading something long ago posted by Dave W. himself where he indicated he looked at/played every guitar before it left the shop. I also think I read that these E-types have no routing under the pickguard for a neck pickup. Quote

I also think I read that these E-types have no routing under the pickguard for a neck pickup. The E-Types were shipped to Greg sans pickguard. I don't know why some fit well and others... well... don't. But they are cool in that they are more Fender than Robin. No neck pickup route. These were supposed to be set apart from the Wranglers as custom, not a variation of the available parts in the shop. 1 Quote
