Dang, that is a nice one. Perfect mate for its twin, my ‘84 Proto. If the neck was a tad wider, I would consider trading it for my Ric 660/12

The neck on my Phantom 12 was too narrow, but I measured that one at only 1-5/8".  I have a Fender XII Stratocaster with a 1-11/16" wide nut that plays well.

That’s only 1/16th” narrower than the Ric’s neck. I suppose I could get used to it, but the 660’s dimensions are simpatico with my stout fingertips.

I almost purchased a Chaparral 12 from a local HFCer of some reknown. Same deal; width just a tad too narrow. Too bad. It had a bitchin, pearl white finish and was in excellent shape.

Out of curiosity, I checked the nut width of my '91 Special 12. It measures 1.702" wide using my calipers, which is a shade over 1-11/16".

Do those headstocks fit in the normal Special / Les Paul case, or did they require a different case?

I've had them in both types of cases- the LP case it fits fine and a rectangular (similar to a phantom case) where its a little more comfortable.
