How do you clean Cat Piss off a Hamer?

This sounds like a joke, but it's not. I thought I was smart for having cats, not kids and it totally bit me in the ass. One of my cats got mad at me and pissed on a pile of hamers in their cases. I almost had an aneurism. Most of em were easily cleanable with just clorox wipes on the outside of the cases.

One of them got it inside the case and on the fretboard. Here's the crazy part- it was so acidic, it broke two strings in the same place, at about the 9th fret. (All three cats have been checked by the vet and deemed NOT to be pissing battery acid...)

So there's some serious funkiness on one of my favorite guitars, and I was hoping y'all might help a brother out with some tips as to cleaning products and techniques that are strong like a gorilla, yet soft and yielding like a nerf ball...

AS far as the case I would try Fantastic Oxyclean.

I have cats and it gets puke out of a white carpet no problem. I think it may take any odor away also.

The stuff is amazing. Try it before you throw your case away.

As for tthe rooms, I have 30+ guitars in a two bedroom apartment. One bedroom is the music room, but there's just a limited amount of space throughout. The case I can live without, but I'll try the Oxyclean.

Any actual thoughts on guitar cleaning?

What's "simple green" alpep?

Before you throw away the case, clean the outside with whatever surface cleaner you'd use. I'd avoid bleach (so Clorox might not the be the best choice) due to the risk of discoloration.

Then wipe it down with Nature's Miracle. Don't be stingy. And let it completely air dry. Then clean it with the surface cleaner again. Nature's Miracle uses enzymes to break down the chemicals in animal wastes that cause the stink and stains. Most major petstores have got this stuff. I've owned 3 German Shepherds and a pair of cats. This stuff worked on hair balls, cat piss, dog doo, dog vomit consisting of cat poo, and worse.

As for the guitar itself, why not wipe the guitar down water (no detergent) and remove as much of the piss stain as you can. If the guitar still reminds of Phoebe's "Smelly Cat" try a tiny bit of the Nature's Miracle diluted into the water. Then I think you want that fretboard re-oiled and the rest of the guitar polished. Good luck.

Good stuff.

Two (now one) geriatric cats. Oak floors throughout. Trust me.

I've used this stuff with great success. Amazing on mildew and bar-smoke amp funk (you know that smell) A friend of mine turned me on to it after his incontinent mother and her 3 incontinent cats moved into his house. It may actually save your guitar case - it's that good.

Leave it, cat piss adds mojo!

:):P:)

That one must have hit them a couple times before you noticed for it to do that kind of damage. Was it urine or male spray. Either way some funky stuff no doubt. Good advice given already so I will S.T.F.U. ....... :)

+1 Natures Miricle!!!!

I just went through the last days of my cat.

She decided to pee wherever she liked.

Natures miricle is a bacterial enzyme cleaner.

Esentially the bacteria (harmless) eat all the stinky stuff.

Works great

I'm sure you already know this, but... make sure you keep the door shut. Your cats will smell trace amounts of the urine that will escape your inferior human nose. When they do... BAM. You're right back at square 1.

If it gets to that, then it's time for you to piss on the cat.
