Andy uses a variety of speakers, often in a D style semi open back. But obviously closed backs as well. Sometimes EVMs, often varieties of Eminence (I think). I believe his later ODH (rated at up to 300 watts at 4 ohms) has used the Copperback neo (rated at 250W). Sorta like the EVM in terms of power handling and "transparent" (no speaker distortion) at much lower weight. Not as "warm" to my ears as my favorite speaker, but not a bad choice either. I did have a Vumble cab, with oval cutout on the back. Celestion CL80 speaker. Sold the cab, but built a replica. I think that is a good choice. But..... My favorites have been the Forte 3D style.....Best of open and closed back tones in a small package. To my taste at least. Sounds huge. A 1 x 12 with an Alnico Blue is great. The same with an EVM is good too. Stack the pair and I think it is even better. Of course, you then have $600 just in the raw speakers......Building the cabs myself certainly helps. 😉 Going with ceramic speakers can help reduce the cost! And if your playing is more into the heavy metal realm, maybe the better choice anyway. I would def try the cabs you already have before experiment further. I doubt you will be unhappy. For me, I can get from nice clean(ish) tones to bluesy to fully saturated. Think nice arpeggios behind a singer to classic rock to "Santana" but those great Gary Moore tones are in there too. A worthy pursuit!

1996 Hamer USA Mirage II - Maple top version, Kool Blue finish. All stock other than the neck pickup has been swapped out with a Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pickup. The volute has a ding on it. No, the neck is not broken or had any repairs, it’s just a ding at the volute. Please see photos. guitar is in excellent condition otherwise. Come with Hamer hard shell case. Here is something that may not be of interest to everyone. And little or no involvement of guitars! I have long been a big fan of Mosaic Records. They carry on after the death of Michael Cuscuna and his link to such as the classic Blue Note days. Many of the precious recordings go back to old 78s. Masters? Very unlikely. So the best (relative term) is generally a rare and well worn original record. Meaning scratchy and otherwise noisy. And that may have been recorded at something other than 78 rpm, with grooves that vary and a center hole that may be off center. Here is a video that outlines the steps they go through to recover the original sound. This relates to classic Louis Armstrong recordings that are now over 100 years old. And which is being released today....Last day to order at a discount😉 I like the before and after comparisons. Like always, these are released in limited quantities and pretty much sure to gain in value in the future. No affiliation other than by appreciation of their work.

My main squeeze now is an Avatar closed back 2x12 with Fane Avatar M65 speakers in it. I also have an open back 2x12 with Eminence Texas Heat speakers, as well as another with an Eminence Black Powder and Blue Tick hound. I am seriously tempted by the Hybrid as well, but part of me is still a tube snob. I also tend to favor real spring reverb. I know the Digiverb on the current ODS is excellent, and have some amps with it, but man I love springs.

It has a 3 prong and no death cap, I did that myself with some coaching, - I'd need coaching to do it again! There was another amp in the service shop that has the same look as my Silvertone, but bigger, belongs to Rick who owns Guitar Maniacs. I'm not sure the model, but it looks like it has a 12" speaker. It may be for his collection, or it may be fs in his shop. It looks like Silvertone did a 133x series, there's a couple of 1336 models on Reverb, but priced pretty high Coincidentally, the tech told me he's be converting collectible amps back to 2 prong for guys who want them to be more original! I think I'll hold off on any of that. Even Andy's newer ODH is good.....The full ODS tube preamp with a solid state power amp. In a very light and portable unit. If you name your favorite cabs, I MIGHT be able to comment. I have tried the D types with may different cabinet styles and speakers.

I thought his guitar playing was great. His first album came out when I was 17 or 18. I think.

I still keep thinking about picking up an ODS classic. The ODS II is a fantastic amp as well, but as I'm a "D-style" newbie, it seems better to go that way. They also are a lot more economically priced than the D-style amps from Amplified Nation, Two Rock, and others. I mean I could always snag an overtone special from ceriatone, but even they aren't cheap. I'd rather also get a Jersey amp. I just need to stay off reverb. Also gotta worry about whether my favorite cabinets will work well with it. I didn't stay off reverb. As good as he was, his stage moves were a bit.......different. YT videos of earlier shows - when he's not playing guitar - are cringe-worthy. Speaking of guitar, he was a lot better than given credit for.

I thought I could go digital and sold all my amps a few years ago and bought a Line 6 Power Cab Plus. It holds a lot of IRs and I thought it was the way to go. I discovered I like twisting real knobs and the sound of real amps in the room. But, I still use digital to record. And am planning to use my Tone King Imperial Tri Tuby Doobie for recording soon.

This popped up in my Reverb feed and seems extremely reasonable. With a more than tasty sunburst finish. No mention of a case, but I'm betting something useable could be negotiated. I've been using computer based amp modeling programs since Amplitude came out in 2002. I've since upgraded the program and also added their Tonex version. I've also used Guitar Rig, Positive Grid Bias, and a few others. At the time I started my only "real" amp was a Peavy bass amp with a huge Peavey 18-10 bass cabinet. Not conducive to bedroom playing which is mainly what I was doing those days. I since gone back to "real" amps and pedals but still use the computer based stuff for recording. I bought a used Tech 21 amp from submariner (thanks again) and it covers so much ground that I mainly enjoy playing it these days. Will check out the Genome and see. Thanks.

That looks really cool. My first amp was something similar but I can't remember exactly what it looked like. Did your guy remove the death cap? It looks like it still has the two prong plug.

Make that a LOT less money! And you could get even more if your two pedals were the new Clean Fusion Deluxe. Just add a power amp. Or get the CFD AMP version. You are right......I have gotten great traction with the original Ethos into a Mesa Blue Angel for many gigs in the past. But when you need TOOBS.......😉 Yes it does offer up a bit more than the ODS, which is more of a 1 1/2 channel amp (not completely different than an original Mesa Mark Series, where the cascading gain comes on top of the "clean" tone). Having separate tone stacks opens up the switching, and more so with the two buttons for bumping mids and gain on each channel.

This amp, in my estimation, addresses all the operational shortcomings of the typical "D" style amp. Really cool. But I think two Ethos pedals in tandem might get close for a little less money. 😎

I have had this amp for a while. I really like what Andy has done. Great improvements over the original ODS make it very versatile. Way overkill for little old me! I have made no secret about my like for the D type amps.... Anyway, it looks like my downsizing is accelerating a bit. I have a buyer and expect the sale will be completed quickly. If one has an interest in these, worth checking out. As you would expect, not exactly cheap. To say the least! But you can certainly spend more for amps in this range! Besides being a brilliant debut, it is one of the greatest guitar duo albums ever.
