BruceM Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 As most of you know, there are many of us celebrating 50th birthdays this year. I've rented a banquet room here in Minneapolis on Saturday, October 7, to host this auspicious event. I'm looking forward to hosting LOTS of you from out of town for this event. Shall we christen this one the Golden HFC Jam? This will likely be a 5 or 6 hour jam session, so we should be able to accomodate everyone on stage. I'm going to look around for a host hotel this week, and would like to get an informal head count of those requesting accomodations. The bad news is that both the Gophers and the Vikings have home games at the Metrodome that weekend. This means that the hotels closest to the jam site, downtown and at the U of MN, will likely have lots of competition for space. I'd like to get an arrangement made somewhere soon. The likely spots to find suitable lodging will be off the light rail line, and most hotels offer some type of shuttle service from the nearest rail stop. The party is near the light rail line as well, perhaps a bit far to walk, but a quick shuttle away if we can find a driver or two. I'm going to try to make it possible to stay without needing to rent a car. I'll be checking hotels downtown, near the University of Minnesota, and near the Mall of America. If you think you'll be coming for this jam, and you'd like to stay at the HFC approved hotel, let me know soon, and let me know how many nights you think you'll stay. I think it will be important to book rooms early for this one. Bruce
BruceM Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 How about tents in your backyard? Perfect! Why didn't I think of that? Then I can sell blocks of time in the bathroom (hot water not guaranteed) and make a little cash on the side.
serial Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Arrgh! Got a gig that night. Crap-missed y'all last weekend AND looks like I'll not be able to do MN either. Someday Bruce-I swear!
BTMN Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I'm not in the 50 year club yet, I got 5 to go but I am coming up for this auspicious event. I will be in town Friday through Monday. Lodging taken care of on my part.Life IS Good!
BruceM Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 Arrgh! Got a gig that night. Crap-missed y'all last weekend AND looks like I'll not be able to do MN either. Someday Bruce-I swear! serial Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I'll hafta check the social schedule here-wonder if I can grab a cheap enough flight on that short notice though?!
MCChris Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Well...there's another auspicious event coming up Aug. 19. Got a gig that night? The Aug. party is guaranteed to be the WILDEST 4-3-2-1 event yet... Yep. I'm planning on being in Minneapolis TWO nights that weekend ....
ctrixie Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Count us in for the October bash, Friday & Saturday night for hotel. We'd love to make the 19th, but looks like that won't be possible.
JohnnyThunders Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Put me down for Friday and Saturday night as well. Looks like a load of fun.
tomteriffic Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Most Esteemed Redhead and I are in for October. Friday, and Saturday nights, maybe more, depending on the train schedules. We're going to try to ride on up.
cmatthes Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I'm working on a Friday/Saturday night thing too. Will keep ya posted!
m chops Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I am unsure at this point, but if I can do it, it will be Saturday night only.
BruceM Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 I've been calling around. The most convenient hotels near the metrodome are booked already. I'll check the Mall of America hotels and get something posted soon...
BruceM Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 Bring the wives and the credit cards! I've booked a block of 12 rooms at the Holiday Inn - Mall of America for a rate of $99/night. They've got complimentary airport/MOA shuttle service, and they're VERY close to the light rail line. That makes the 4-3-2-1 Club, the Mpls Eagles Club and downtown all very easily accessible by train. You likely won't need a car if you're flying in.This rate is good until Sept. 15. It won't be available on their computer until tomorrow, so I'll post call-in details then.We will be able to go beyond 12 rooms if necessary and if rooms are available, so make sure you get your reservation in early if you're coming. Remember, this is a double football game weekend here in the cities, so the rooms WILL fill up.Looks like we're set! This is a very nice hotel, but if $99 seems steep, let me know and I'll look around for some cheaper alternatives.
JohnnyThunders Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 What is the group name tthat the rooms are reserved under.
sirDaniel Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 hey, cool idea. Tents! edited to add: This event takes the place of HFC OPENHOUSE VIII
BruceM Posted August 22, 2006 Author Posted August 22, 2006 Here's your host hotel information. I've reserved a block of 12 rooms for Oct. 6 & 7, and was able to talk them down in price, so the quoted rate should now be $89/night.Holiday Inn Select Minneapolis/Saint Paul International AirportGroup Name: Hamer Fan ClubCall: (952) 854-900 or 1-800-465-4329 and make sure you request the Hamer Fan Club rateHere's a link to the hotel's website.Holiday Inn WebsiteThis rate is only good until Sept. 15, so book early!Let me know if there are any other questions.
sirDaniel Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 remember all. The MOA (mall of america) is every wife and kids dream if you at all need an excuse. And its right across the street from the airport.
ctrixie Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 We've reserved the room for Fri & Sat. Now we just have to decide on which guitars to bring.
BruceM Posted August 24, 2006 Author Posted August 24, 2006 I made the trip on the train out to the host hotel today. It's a six minute walk from the nearest train stop to the hotel...about 2 1/2 blocks. You wouldn't wanna carry all your luggage, and the hotel has a free shuttle service from the airport (minutes away), but for a night or two on the town, it's perfect! It's a big place, and when you check in, request a room with a northern view...you'll see both downtowns and get to watch the planes take off and land. WOO HOO! There's a BIG pool, and a huge gym, so I'm expecting everyone to be pumped up when they show up for the jam.You can arrive at the 4-3-2-1 Club for Friday's festivities within 25 minutes of leaving your room (there will be a complimentary shuttle service from the train stop to the 4-3-2-1 Club), hop back on the train for the inevitable trip downtown, and it's also convenient for the Saturday jam.Book those rooms early, folks!
JohnnyThunders Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Cool booked and ready to check out the 4-3-2-1 club. I'm going to try and take a guitar on the plane this should be interesting.
