Hold the phone Mable . . . . some of us are not remotely comparing apples to apples here. We’re not talking about Janis Joplin and she’s sure the heck not claiming or portraying herself to be that. She’s just a young lady playing an acoustic guitar in her dang bedroom. Does it help that she’s easy on the eyes – sure. But all of this needs to be kept in the proper perspective.
Now, if this 17 year old young lady was instead a 27 year old seasoned artist, performing on a stage somewhere or trying to charge money as a paid professional – then fire away – its fair game. But to dissect a young adult’s musical talent to this level, who is just starting to cut her teeth in the music industry is pretty short sighted and comes across fairly harsh. YouTube is huge as a market place, but is also possibly the most brutal stage out there. It takes HUGE stones to post anything about you on it - for this exact reason - much less a damn music video of yourself. She’s pretty good by any standard and damn good for any seventeen year old (hooters or not). She has a couple dozen videos with tens of thousands of views on each one – so she’s doing more than a little something right.
As for her not smiling or making the right faces when playing?!?!?! Good-f#@king-grief man, I’m lucky if I’m not involuntarily making crazy Michael Jordan tongue aerobic faces when I play something hard (for me) – so much for MY stage presence.
And for what it’s worth, I’m pretty sure if I had been that talented a guitarist/musician when I was seventeen and looked that good (slim chance there), I would have stacked enough cash there would be no HFC threads about the “remaining four digit Standards out there”. Because I’d have a man-cave the size of a lumber mill and I’d already own every flippin’ four digit Standard that had popped up for sale and a couple a hundred of their Hamer USA friends to help fill it. Holy sh*t, would that make me a Hamer-hoarder?
All cussing and discussing aside, I’m honestly just thrilled that someone in her generation is still very passionate about playing the guitar – period. Like most people, I wish her nothing but incredible success.
