  1. I would NOT change the tuners. Swapping out the tuner buttons to plastic, wood or some other lighter weight alternative shaves a considerable amount of weight off of an 8 String headstock - I think you'll be surprised. The Schaller buttons are also commonly available, so an easy fix.
  2. We wouldn't steer ya wrong, Mitch!! Now, out some cream P-90 covers on there, and everything will be right in the world again!
  3. Another tried and true Flitz user. It WORKS.
  4. The "whitewashed" guitars were part of the NAMM Show display a few years back. They had done some for Tom Dumont, and did those (with Sustainblocks!) for the NAMM booth. Pretty danged cool!
  5. Looks like we know where some of the cool NAMM show Hamers ended up...
  6. Sounds awesome, Josh! Thanks so much for posting!
  7. They are all being made to the same/similar specs. Orders that deviated too far from the basic formula are put in the "Custom Order" category.
  8. Mike already has the serial thing figured out.
  9. Kiz - you get #49.
  10. Mike expanded the initial offering to @25, to do his best to meet the (HUGE!) initial demand and include as many people as possible. Actual production is being broken into two "runs" or batches.
  11. Mike expanded the initial run.
  12. I prefer it to all other carves, but I like bigger neck profiles anyway. I have it on a Musikraft Strat and Tele neck, and gravitate towards those two a lot. I like the way it fills my fretting hand and helps position my fingers on the board. Less fatigue and nice leverage when I want it - makes barre chords as easy on the first fret as well above the 12th for some reason. I also find that it doesn't dig into the second joint of my thumb like some other neck carves can do at times. Any neck I order going forward will probably have that profile. For illustration...
  13. This is one of my favorite HFC pics OF ALL TIME! (Thanks, Paults!) A stage eye's view from the Maumee gig:
  14. It might be for a relist with the correct date.
  15. His asking price is close to double what that guitar should sell for, but then again, it also isn't a 1980 model - it's later (from 1982). Those guitars DO fetch well more than $3k in nice shape, and the '70s models sell for WAY more than anything from the '80s.
  16. He was also way drowned out by the Roots - especially two drummers who had no idea what songs they were playing. It was a clashy, crappy mess, unfortunately. Always been an Ace fan, but if his cover of "The Joker" isn't just an awful joke, then maybe it's time for him to hang up the Les Paul. That's TERRIBLE!!
  17. And the others are continuing to reinvent themselves and break new ground? Well, Kiz, they DID come up with new costumes for the last tour and all...
  18. It sold for either $1,299 (with the PAFs) or $995 without them from Dave Kenney's Guitar Gallery in 1990.
  19. One of the coolest Hamer finishes of that era!
  20. I sense a disturbance in the subject line... PRS Convert Hamer Geek Yamahalic Westone nerd Alvarez dweeb Jon Kammerer Guitars fan
  21. No need to save it, Jim! I'll spare you the agony of waiting...that one ain't happenin'!!
  22. No wounds until that becomes a sig line!
  23. As I understand it, Mike will be more receptive to "tweaks" and custom work than Hamer had been in recent years up until near the end.
  24. The "most people" bit was intentional on my part - purposely worded that way, because some people want things that just aren't going to get made...
  25. Ionel - Are you planning on ordering something with a Standard-style headstock or "just being curious"? I think a lot of people have questions that truly aren't able to be answered at this early stage of the game. As far as something being "legal" or "illegal", Mike is going to stay on the clear side of things. If an order comes in, he'll probably have to evaluate it at that time, and may choose to make an artistic modification if necessary. Personally, I don't see a problem with doing something that is closer to the more recent/modern (thicker) Standard style headstocks. Keep in mind, Shishkov USA is a custom guitar shop that will make most people's guitar dreams come true, but Mike is not trying to be Hamer USA. His guitars will have HIS mojo, blood, sweat and tears on and in them...well, hopefully, not the blood and tears part! If you are looking for a Hamer, buy a Hamer - there are plenty of those around and always will be - even a glut of new, unsold stock. If however, you want a personalized, truly custom creation, with real collaboration between the customer/player and luthier, Mike's the man.
