NGD 1979 Hamer Sunburst Black Bound and Crowned
ARM OF HAMER replied to ARM OF HAMER's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Thanks everyone! I looked so long for another one of these in Black and it was VERY tough to find one....................unless you happen to know where to look.....................right Ken? -
Well.................here is another I now own ..............got it here yesterday by UPS International Mail.I showed this to Steve [sERIAL] before I plunked down the $$$ and he approved so............that was good enough for me and now its mine. Lots of play wear, checking etc, etc.and it does have the original case which I had to do some repairs to but now its fine.It has a non original neck PUP ring mounted in the bridge position which is too shallow so of course the PUP sits high. Thats the only issue that I need to correct............. it certainly plays great and sounds wonderful just as is................ everything else works perfectly. Wish I could take credit for finding this great guitar but I didn't............. someone else found it for me. He emailed me about this guitar and I thought oh yeah right thinking it was a import model or perhaps a "Special" but then he sent me the photos and my jaw dropped................there it was! Its a "GOOD" one............... Have a look!

I bought one of these back when he was first blowing them out for $45.00 shipped!.............and I posted it here...............soon many of the HFC members were getting them as well..............hell he must have bought out the whole warehouse! The prices have gone up now of course but this IS the same case I have my Black 79 Sunburst in and it fits VERY well even though its not a original 79 Hamer [LP style] issued case. The 90s era Hamer issued cases do have much more padding and are very well made by TKL. For the price even with those other considerations to get it to you............it IS a original "Hamer Case." Buy it!

The neck on my Black sunburst was kind of tacky when I got it.................not much but I could feel it and see that it was dirty. After the Zymol treatment its now as smooth as a babys butt..............you could see the guitar get cleaner and more beautiful with each treatment.Necks can be tough though to clean......... Pledge,Fast Fret, Finger Ease, some players put baby oil on the fingerboard[One guy I know who is a great player swears by it] all this stuff gets on the back of the neck ofcourse and after a while YUK! I use only a tiny bit of real lemon oil once a year on my guitars. Cleaning same thing.........I'm so careful with my guitars so..............

I used the "ZYMOL" Cleaner/Wax on my Hamer Sunburst which is Black and it shined it up like a new penny, not to mention all the playing staining and crud it took off. Black shows every flaw and this product cleaned it,nourished the nitro finish, and gave it beautiful patina.Just use a very little like a small drop and work it a small area flipping your cloth after it loads with the grunge. This product IS the best I have used hands down and I have used every guitar and car care cleaner, wax, and detail product though the years on my classic cars and guitars. I had just a touch of fog/hazing on the back of my Black Sunburst and when I used just a drop of this Zymol to clean the guitar it came right out and has not returned. Use a nice clean multi-fiber cloth to get the best results. You can buy the "Zymol" at "Wally World" for a little over $15.00 for a huge bottle that will last you forever. This stuff is killer!

Got my 90s Hamer case [Made by TKL Canada] off Ebay for $99.00 its a perfect fit with nice padding and all the latches work, and its clean with just some slight aging/patina. I have see these come up for sale on Ebay for around the same price IF you are looking for a Hamer branded case. Good Luck and BTW nice "SUNBURST"

Congrats on the "NEW" Sunburst I agree with Rich I would contact the seller regarding the wiring issue being that it was not disclosed in the listing for the guitar and ask for some $$$ back...........thats fair...............sounds like its something your capable of doing yourself but none the less it needs fixing to make the guitar playable so I'd sure ask for a partial refund.

The buyer paid what it was worth to him to own it.................Also how Ebay works, just depends on who is watching/bidding and how bad they want it.Trying to find a guitar like this one over the pond could be difficult so I guess you have to have at it when one becomes available. How it worked for me.............I bought my Sunburst despite mods that some may feel make it a lesser guitar. I have yet to see another 79 "Bound and Crowned" Sunburst in Black on Ebay since I bought mine [And that was Jan.16th 2014] so was it worth it to me? YES!

Its the Hamer "NEWHART" ..............that is its the Hamer Bob Newhart "Signature" Model in beautiful "BOB SUNBURST BROWN"..............it IS indeed the greatest guitar you will ever touch. -
Sunburst Numbers per "SERIAL" STEVE 1977-96 instruments (and four unserialed prototypes) 1978-511 1979-843 ALSO.............Tom Holmes (who built the early Sunbursts) said that Hamer sent him a stack of fretboards that were built by another vendor. When Tom received the fretboards they were all bound together for shipping. When Tom took the binding straps off to separate them, each fretboard bent backwards. Tom called Hamer and told them that whoever built the fretboards cut the fret slots too small and that the installed frets were causing the boards to bend backwards. He warned Hamer that this would be a problem and cause the necks to warp/twist. Apparently, whoever Tom spoke with at Hamer said "Use them anyway - we've already paid for them and need you to finish those guitars ASAP". So the question is how many B&C Sunbursts were made and out of them how many were flawed with neck problems due to the B&C fingerboards. You would think not too many as Holmes had used those fingerboards as instructed by Hamer and then guitars started to have neck issues and were returned or.?????????............... maybe STEVE can comment on how many B&C'd Sunbursts made it out the door before Hamer did something to correct it. I can't believe it was the whole production run of B&C Sunbursts. Hamer sent Holmes a "STACK" of B&C fingerboards to use on the Sunbursts so...............how many were in the "STACK"?, and how many Stacks were used after that first one that were bad and used on guitars. Interesting also as to why some 'SUNBURSTS' have those neck issues and others have none.
