All-time great live album SIDES...
Cary replied to Willie G. Moseley's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
+1000. Beat me to it. Definitely one of the most intense sides ever put on vinyl; the solo on Rock Bottom can still make the hair on my arms stand up. -

My condolences to you and your family.

You are correct, it seems like the purpose of the OC has evolved... It was my understanding when it was established that it WAS for the political arguments and nudity - stuff that might be "offensive" to some members (or non-members who might stop by and wrongly think that the views on the board represented those of Hamer). Ironically, I've noticed some people lately getting put out by political discussions on the OC - guess we need an Outer Outer Circle

I think the people you are referring to prefer to be called "Huffer-Americans".

Actually it was your post and Straightblue's post that reminded me of that story. You are correct bobbymack - and what's even sadder than chasing the almighty dollar at the expense of everything that should be important to them, is chasing it because they are struggling to just keep up with the interest payments on their big screen tvs and onion petals they ate 3 years ago... I am absolutely convinced that a scary number of people in this country are so up to their asses and eyeballs in debt they will never be "free". The hard part is having to explain to our 11 year old son that his friends who live in $500,000 houses maybe don't see their parents much because they're working all the time, or they're struggling to make ends meet paying for that house and the lease on their H2. Don't get me wrong - we have some nice stuff, and we too are very fortunate; but we have also been able to show some discipline and keep sight of what's important (as hard as that is at times)...

I first read this some time ago, and it's kind of stuck with me: An American businessman stood at the pier of a small coastal village in Mexico, when a small boat carrying a lone Mexican fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The fisherman replied, “Only a little while.” The American then asked, “If it took only a little while to catch these fine fish, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more fish?” The fisherman explained that this catch was enough to support his family's immediate needs. The American then asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?” The fisherman replied, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, and stroll into the village each evening, where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life, señor.” The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats. Eventually, you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then L.A., and eventually New York City, where you would run your expanding enterprise.” The fisherman asked, “But señor, how long will this all take?” The American replied, “Fifteen to twenty years.” “But what then, señor?” inquired the Mexican. The American laughed and said, “That's the best part. When the time is right, you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich. You would make millions.” “Millions, señor? Then what?” asked the Mexican. The American said, “Why, then you would retire, of course—move to a small coastal fishing village where you could sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, and stroll into the village in the evenings, where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

USA Cruise Bass Can't Get the Low Tones?
Cary replied to tonedef's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Sound guys LOVED me: "uh, can you turn down a little bit? - we're having a hard time getting you in the mix". Tonedaddy: "What did he ask you?" Me: "He asked me to turn down a little" Tonedaddy: F*ck him, turn it up!" Our sound guys loved us, period. Running a Mesa Bass 400+ on "2" is like buying a Ferrari and driving it at 15mph all the time... -
USA Cruise Bass Can't Get the Low Tones?
Cary replied to tonedef's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Personally I always played mine with the neck pickup wide open and the bridge pickup maybe 3/4 of the way up. The neck pickup helped the lower end response a lot. I tried using just (or mostly) the bridge pickup but it was way too thin and trebley for my taste. Plus I always played through a Mesa Bass 400+ into an Ampeg 4x10 and an Ampeg 1x18, so I never had any trouble with the low end -
He sucks shit through a straw. I can't change the radio station fast enough when one of his "songs" comes on.

I was for just a little while. MAYBE a quarter of the workforce there, no emails, no phone calls, left early, picked up some Maker's Mark, Southern Comfort and Vodka, took the DeVille through a car wash (after a shitload of 15 degree days, 45 DEGREES TODAY - FUCK YEAH!!!!) and now I'm having a Maker's and 7 and talking to you jag-offs again. Life is great.

I'm not sure who the guy is, but the chick looks like Paula Jones...

AWESOME!!! I kept watching this thread, hoping we'd hear some good news. Thank god you found out this quickly, I can't imagine having to wait long for news like that!

Polically active bands...whatcha think?
Cary replied to Brownsound's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with that. This current trend of claiming that all opinions have equal validity, or “it’s my opinion, and it’s just as important as yours”, is crap. Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day is a high school drop-out. What you are saying is that he is just as qualified to comment on current events as someone who has a BA in Political Science, or a Masters in International Relations. Does education automatically make the more educated person’s opinions right? Not hardly. But in many cases they do have a more informed background from which to reach their conclusions. All opinions DO NOT have equal validity, and some are just completely wrong. It’s a shame when an otherwise talented band decides to use their music and celebrity as a platform to push an agenda I disagree with. I generally don’t buy albums or go to movies when I know that my money is going to contribute to causes I disagree with. To me, it’s like writing a check to the enemy. -
Easy for YOU to say, you're probably USED to going without for long periods of time

I may be interested in 1 or 2 in XXL. I've lost quite a bit of weight, but I still like to have a little extra room to hide a .45 when necessary

How high/low do you wear your axe?
Cary replied to HamerHokie's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
There's actually another Levy strap I might even recommend more for you. They make (or at least made) a checkerboard version WITH A LEATHER BACK... That's important because they also made a totally nylon version . BUT, the checkerboard with the leather back is long enough I can wear it with my Blitzbass and FBIV (IIRC, you play a Scarab bass, don't you?). And THAT one I don't have maxed out. I have it at 57" straplock to straplock, and there's room to let it out at least 2 more inches. It's marked "MPG28" on the back "The nylon version, which is too short, is "MP28". The suede leather strap is more comfortable, though, but it only maxes out at 54", so it doesn't go as well with my "pointy" basses. Unfortunately I can no longer read the number on any of the three of that model I have. Good luck. -

I usually use Levy's brushed leather straps. Nice and wide, high quality, and I'm 6'2", if that gives you any indication how long they are from the picture. I can get the "Model Number" if you're interested. -

Low, as the Rock and Roll gods intended. -
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

If we're talking basses, it has to be my first Hamer, my 96 Cruisebass bought new in 1997. As for guitars, I couldn't even say... Probably my 76 LP Standard I bought in 1979.
