  1. I believe the blues artist known as "Supachicken" makes and sells them. From what I understand they're available in Clarksdale,MS.
  2. You must be good enough if they want you to join.
  3. Having walked at least some small distance in his shoes, I can tell you that he lived through anguish and sadness that are unimaginable to most people and felt that he and everybody else would be better off without him. A person can endure that feeling of helplessness for only so long...
  4. Excellent score! I have the same color scheme but mine has turned very, very yellow.
  5. I can't believe he's gone. I got to see him in a club in Minneapolis in the 80's!
  6. If I were to show up in spandex, I would attract the attention of mental health professionals and, probably, nobody else.
  7. I'm 57 and am now playing bass in a blues band, I'm the oldest but the rest of the guys (except for the 40-something singer/songwriter/bandleader) are in their 50's also. We do about 80% originals and 20% covers and we've been doing quite well. We have found a niche that allows us to do what we want to do and still get our fair share of gigs. Except for carrying gear (2 displaced vertabrae), I don't have any problems. Age is just a number.
  8. It went very well, the Cabooze was packed. I don't know the capacity...maybe 1,000 or thereabouts. We didn't get a chance to talk to him as they were leaving after their soundcheck when we were starting ours. He just shouted, "Have a good gig, guys!" on his way out. He played the old Tele through what appeared to be an old Super and a reissue Twin. As always, he killed! We did pretty well, too. We had good crowd response and even sold a few CD's. By the way, that's some truck he has...a 6 door GMC!
  9. If you're thinking of going, you should make sure ticket(s) are available as it may be sold out. Check the Cabooze's website: http://www.cabooze.com Doors open at 8:30, we're up at 9:00 and Tab is on at 10:30.
  10. I usually go to GC to try stuff out and then buy from the local, family owned store. Sometimes GC has stuff for sale stupid cheap, though, and I've been known to take advantage of situations like that. I probably stop by GC 3 or 4 times a year.
  11. My wife could care less about what I buy, sell and trade; she figures that's my business. Since I either trade stuff or use my gig money, she doesn't feel the need to interfere. Besides, she bought my fretless Jazz Bass and my upright for me.
  12. That's just not right. I played for years in a "house jam band" here in the Twin Cities and we always followed the sign up sheet and made sure EVERYBODY who signed up got to play. Most of the jams here are run that way...there a few exceptions, but not many. Playing at blues jams allowed me to get my feet wet after a 10+ year hiatus because the guys who ran the jams were supportive.
  13. Grrrr, the 4321 curse struck again! At least nobody died this time, but I was sick as a dog...I wasn't going anywhere on Saturday. Maybe next time...
  14. We also have a sheet for people to sign up to receive a monthly update via e-mail and the schedules we hand out at the gigs also direct people to our website. The monthly e-mail updates probably work better than anything else.
  15. My bands have been doing that for 10+ years and in that time, we've had a total of 1 complaint from a bar manager...and he's a moron.
  16. I'm heartbroken. He was a monster musician, a monster and (gulp) only 59.
  17. Mine's a 2-Tek, but I use D'Addario Chrome flats on mine and keep the tone knob about 1/2 way open. Nobody ever complains about a lack of low end (I also use an Ampeg about 3/4 of the time). I would also check the pick up height as somebody also mentioned.
  18. It's not your imagination. Gigs are harder to find and good gigs are even harder to find. We only have 3 gigs in both January and February. I may be forced to go out to Inn Kahoots this weekend. It's good to go out and be entertained rather than being the entertainment!
  19. I'm here for another hour and 15 minutes and bored stiff.
  20. Wal-Mart has First Act guitars and Target also has guitars, also First Act, if my memory serves me. I haven't checked Lowes or Home Depot yet, I'm afraid of what I might find!
  21. I knew you'd like it. I'll find that damned Bass Player review, I forgot about it!
  22. Yeah, my kids surprised me with tickets when they came over for Thanksgiving or I wouldn't be going. Does anybody know who is opening?
  23. I'm going to see him in Rochester on Sunday. I first saw him 35 years ago and haven't seen him in about 8 years. I'm excited as well!
  24. Badger Dave was kind enough to send me a couple of tickets to see Taj Mahal a while back. I also have to say that the 4321 jams at Bruce M's place are absolutely a riot and the fun I've had there ranks at the top of my list of good times. Meeting HFC people and talking about and drooling over the beautiful guitars is a great way to spend some time.
