When I owned a small studio back in the early 80's "You Can't Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want)" and "Be My Number Two" were considered by many people to be nearly the "holy grail" of recording technique. Killer horn section (RCA 77DX ribbon mics of course), bass guitar and guitar solo in the first one. An enormous 9' 6" 97-key Bosendorfer Imperial grand piano on both of them. Drums on "Be My Number Two" were recorded in a huge stone room in a 120 year old Masonic Temple in NYC. Sax and violin doubling each other at the end. Awesome sound with very little use of outboard effects. Still play the "Best Of" disc regularly to this day

The three "single coils" aren't actually single coils. I believe they are a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge and Vintage Rails in the middle and neck. They sound…well…ok…but just ok. I’m thinking of trying either a Seymour Duncan Everything Axe set (a JB Jr. in the bridge, Duckbucker in the middle, and Little ’59 in the neck) or a set of Vintage Vibe single coil size P90s. I love the blended heel on the Mirage I. Can’t for the life of me understand why they got rid of it on the Mirage II and Mirage Maple Top. I’ve been seriously tempted to have my other two contoured to match the Mirage I.

Greg, I don’t have “Coast to Coast: Overture and Beginners” either...and I'm not crazy about spending $60 for a used copy I do have “Faces Box: Five Guys Walk Into a Bar” and “Rod Stewart: The Mercury Anthology” which between them have: Angel (Live/BBC) Cut Across Shorty (Live/BBC) I Wish It Would Rain (Live) I’d Rather Go Blind (Live) Jealous Guy (Live) Stay With Me (Live/BBC) and Too Bad (Live) I don’t have anything that has a live version of Borstal Boys or It’s All Over Now. If you can’t find someone who has “Coast to Coast” I’d be happy to burn you a disc with those tracks.

Yikes! I didn't realize this thing had been sitting in the shop for a year already That's what happens when you tell your luthier that you're in no hurry and interrupt the process with other guitars to work on But now we've got a forearm bevel: And the much-needed belly cut : He's got one of my Eclipses in there to match the contours and it's pretty darn accurate. In the meantime I scored a NOS sustain block so the bridge and tailpiece holes got plugged along with the pickup cavities (with mahogany in the proper grain direction). Next up will be the TV Jones Filtertrons and then off to Stike And the girlfriend agreed to chrome hardware

I thought you were too. I haven't been watching the list closely. Is there something different posted? You should play bass on Cowboy Song as well... -

We don't have any definite plans for Sunday. Will the music store be open on Easter Sunday?

Sorry about that Gene. I forgot all about it on Saturday. We have a rental car, but my girlfriend is hoping to have "decompression time" and not do much other than sit by the pool or on the beach. A quick trip north might just work out though Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely do that. My girlfriend doesn't eat wheat and Bailey's has a 6-page gluten-free food list...she's pretty jazzed about that. We're not actually staying on Sanibel. We're staying in a condo in Punta Rassa right near the bridge to Sanibel. We're just going for a little R&R and probably won't do much touristy stuff, but the restaurants sound good. I'll definitely check out Real Guitars...place looks pretty cool...and pretty dangerous

My girlfriend and I are off on a mini-vacation to Sanibel Island from Saturday the 23rd through Wednesday the 27th. Anyone in the Fort Myers area and/or any recommendations for music stores, entertainment, etc.

covers that are way better than the originals
Bloozguy replied to DaveL's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I'm a big Peter Green fan so I wouldn't necessarily call this better, but it did get a lot more exposure: Original Black Magic Woman But I do like this cover of the old 60's protest song: Red Rockers Eve of Destruction cover -
Congratulations Jay!...and I wish you the best for the future (Jim H. spilled the beans just a little)

They are coming here (Minneapolis) in April. Tickets are $55 to $95. Sounds like a cool show. If I can squeeze out some more money after the high buck Jeff Beck tickets I'll probably get some.
