He gets a lot of airplay on the "80's on 8" Sirius channel - always liked his music.

Maybe they aren't Hamers, but they're cool......

Rio Grande pickups are a newfound favorite of mine! (me, slow on the uptake, as usual) -

I really like those, especially the orange one. The black one seems to have a Muy Grande in the bridge - push/pull tone pot? -
I'm no expert, but I'm with Murkat - lower the pot value. Another thing that would be interesting to try would be to wire a tone pot+cap and just put it in the control cavity. If you found a setting where the guitar sounded great to you, you could measure the value of the pot, then wire a resistor of that value in series with the cap to ground. That would give you a static tone circuit.

+1 Charcoal is one of the best odor destroyers (along with baking soda). + One Meeelyon! Thanks to Toadroller's suggestion last July (in my "New Old Pickup Day" thread), my pickup no longer has any smoke smell. Pickup + charcoal briquettes in a small box in the garage for a month = absolutely no smoke smell. Thanks Toadroller!

Rise of a Pheonix. A sunburst is reborn from the ashes ntl shop hap pictorial
velorush replied to murkat's question in Ask the HFC Experts
The original VOS cocktail sauce. i.e., Liquid Mojo -
I shopped for years (and years), asked tons of questions (and even more questions) and generally worried the crap out of anyone who would provide an opinion, then finally pulled the trigger on this (posted before, late last year): '97 American Deluxe P-Bass, Humbucker at the bridge, stock Fender (9V) three-band active electronics. I've played other basses, but I've found nothing that I like better for the money. After playing it live for a few months, I realize I could probably have been fine with a simple P configuration, but that humbucker really brings a lot of additional versatility.

That looks fantastic! What pickups (or did I miss that in another thread?)? -

Fixed! Do we really have to discuss Bongiovi on the HFC? -
Your Significant Other's Favorite Guitar/Amp?
velorush replied to Hamerhack's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Right there with you. No one in the house [other than me] was particularly happy to see the Norman come back from Jay's (it, too, is a cannon). Jay fixed the Norman up too good and now 'dad plays that loud acoustic guitar all the time.' Jay will NOT be receiving a Christmas card (unless I send it). The moral to the story - if you've got something that can't and shouldn't be played, don't send it to Jay! -
Your Significant Other's Favorite Guitar/Amp?

The amp... that's turned... OFF! Reason: she loves the TONE of silence... Extra points if it's stored at church and not at the house. -
Got to see these up close last week. What you can't see from the photos is the absolutely impossible detail, especially on the checkerboard guitar.

Seymour Duncan Antiquity Texas

Specs look good to me! I was a big fan of the Fender Texas Specials in my former (now an HFCer's) AmStd Roadhouse Strat. These appear to be wound a good bit hotter; good for taming the highs in the bridge position. -
the ten most righteous HFC-owned Hamers

I'm torn; the Strat guy in me loves the idea of the master volume, but I love having two humbuckers together and using the volume knobs to get different tones. Love Herington's tone. One of my favorite players. -

Six pages and we haven't had mention of this one? Am I the only non-owner fan? -
.38 Special recently or back in their heyday? I ran spot for them a couple of times back in the mid Eighties and thought they put on a good show... maybe I was just distracted trying to make sure I was shooting the right position with the right gel... but my memory is favorable. You talking about spotlights or your '80s hair-styling ritual? Serial just despises Donnie Van Zandt. He'd hate a Cheap Trick concert if DVZ were onstage. Remember, I'm in the very rural south. Hair gel didn't catch on until it'd moved on everywhere else. I was stocking shelves at Fred's back around '85 and one woman pointed out hair mousse to another: 'see there, that's mousse... put it in yer hair and yer hair looks wet all day!' She responded: 'why would you want that?' There was a shrug... Back then running spot was pretty tricky for a southern boy. The guys calling the shots for national acts always seemed to have thick, unintelligible English accents and always seemed to be torqued before the shows ever started.

Hamer "Bucket List"
velorush replied to django49's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
After stopping by Jay's Murkat Manor last Saturday, I'd say Jay's four-digit standard absolutely tops the list followed by and then and last but certainly not least, But then again, I've an idea for a custom order. Kind of a mash up between a Phantom and a Tally - 25-1/2" scale, sustain block, triple in the bridge, P-90 or single in the neck, six on a side headstock... Edited to add the photo of Murkat's Standard (and another beauty at no extra charge). -

I approve of this message! That's fantastic (more details when you have a chance, please)! -
Again, methinks your expectations are unrealistic, especially in this regard. Even Rush, who appear as genuine as can be and probably are to a large extent, are all about the cash these days. Which is why they didn't play "Caress of Steel" or even "2112" or "Permanent Waves" in their entirety on the Time Machine tour. Sure, the rabid fans would have eaten that up, but the *casual* fans (a.k.a. the ones who take things over the top from a revenue perspective) would have passed on it. I seriously doubt even Rush would sit through an end-to-end recital of Caress of Steel! A three hour show with no warm-up band and only one break in the middle? You may disagree, but it seems like cash for value provided to me. The new Sectors box sets are a better argument that Rush is cashing in on their legacy (with a back catalog like that, wouldn't you?). But Rush have also consistently delivered new material all these years. Clockwork Angels is reportedly recorded and in mixing for release maybe as early as May. Play 2112 and/or Permanent Waves? Any day; in fact the Snakes & Arrows set had all of Permanent Waves excepting only "Jacob's Ladder" and "Different Strings." Ged might have problems with 2112; I suppose they could always tune down a bit. But I digress. Sorry to hear of your separation - you're a talented guy with experience and skills (and demonstrable wit): something better is undoubtedly on its way! Edited for clarification...

That would be Concierto by Jim Hall on CTI. Great album; I have it on CD and vinyl, which is fabulous. When Paul Desmond comes in on alto sax it is just incredible. +1 on Concierto - one of my all-time favorites (as is really anything with Paul Desmond). I think perhaps we guys are too overt in this regard. I think of Barry White, Al Green, Sade, etc., but when (after going on 22 years of marriage) I finally get my wife out on an actual date and I put on Barry or Al in the car, it generally gets met with rolling of the eyes. Jim Hall, on the other hand, isn't something she hears too often, adds an air of sophistication to the evening and isn't overtly horn-dog [did I just type that?]. IMO: no woman (even your wife) wants to be considered a fore-gone conclusion. The game is the thing, isn't it? Any of the early Bossa Nova guys (Jobim, Gilberto), especially with sparce instrumentation, hold up really well. There are certain land mines that I've found over the years: Chick Corea's "Light as a Feather," which I would consider excellent and in the same vein, is utterly reprehensible to my spouse (it's the vocals). If she's a lady of the south, I'd add Patsy Cline to the list (no idea how that would play outside the south).

Come ON! Didn't anyone see Fast Times at Ridgemont High? "When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV" - always the right choice!

FS: PRS DGT Gold Top
velorush replied to jgmoyers's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
To each their own. I much prefer moons to birds, especially on the DGT! The DGT (specifically, gold top and moons) is about the only other guitar I'd want at this point. Alas, as has been posted, the entire 2012 budget for guitars was spent 4Q 2011... Edited to add: jgmoyers, when Serial asks if you'd be up for a trade, it's like Frederick Schwarz asking if you'd like a toy: he's got everything.
