  1. The one time the HFC has something within a couple of hours and I leave town on vacation three days prior. An adage comes to mind: better to be silent and thought a fool rather than to speak and remove all doubt. At least no one will really know just how bad my guitar playing is.
  2. I don't have a lot of experience with humbuckers, but as I was reading the thread I immediately thought of the DiMarzio Slammer in the Phantom I had for a while. It had DC resistance of 10.5k, but still seemed to have the character of a good PAF.
  3. A very humble list: 1970's 70's Sears SS amp 1980's Peavey Bandit 65 '74 Fender Twin Reverb with factory JBL's 1990's Carvin X-100 Combo '60 Supro Super Roland JC 50 (cool amp: half a JC120) Marshall 30w SS Combo 2000's 2006 Fender Supersonic Blonde Combo Tech 21 Trademark 60 All that remain [and all I need, though that VAC22 on the FS Forum is calling to me loudly!]: Mesa Subway Blues Reeves Custom 12PS
  4. FWIW, I really like the RS kit in my Gibson, AND, I really liked the stock Hamer pots I put in my old special. The RS setup in the Gibson makes the tone and volume controls actually work throughout their range. There is an incredible array of tones available using both pickups and just working the knobs. I got the Hamer pots from Unka Greg, along with a surprisingly good ceramic cap. The Hamer pots worked nicely because of that extra umph you get going from 9 - 10 on the volume knob. Also realize the standard Hamer tone setup (at least on those old Specials) was made so "normal" was around 5 with adjustments made from there. As described by the sage. If it were me, I'd go with the Hamer pots in a Hamer, the RS pots in a Gibson or other... wait, I suppose that is what I did do... Edited to fix the link!
  5. Fabulous guitar! Really a well executed flame job. I'm proud of people who have chops to play something like that.
  6. [status Update] Tingly [/status Update] Edited to add: so how's it switched? Blend knob, push/pull, middle always on with neck? [status Update moved to allow for uninterrupted flow of BCR-Pron]
  7. Gee... um... whaddaya wanna do now? This has been very entertaining.
  8. Incredibly entertaining! Seven of the best drummers - would be cool just to be in the room. These videos are the next best thing. I really appreciate you posting these!
  9. Was down there (again) last summer with the family. I made a short trip into Ft. Myers to check out the guitar stores and bumped into a friend I used to jam with I haven't seen in 25 years. He was working at Guitar Center. GC is in a mall and pretty far out from town, however, it is kind of on your way back to the island, so you can make that your last stop on the way back. There is a cool store in down town Ft. Myers called Real Guitars. Small place, but packed wall to wall with interesting vintage and newer stuff. Definitely worth a visit. Were you looking for places to visit (Edison / Ford homes definitely should be on the list, definitely kayak/canoe through the Tarpon Bay refuge)? Places to eat (Bubble Room on Captiva Island [strange, but great], Doc Ford's [not the most "touristy" from the road, but fantastic food])? Also, Island Cow has one of the largest menus I've ever seen and is open for three meals a day 7 days a week. I've got other recommendations depending on what you're looking for.
  10. Simply my favorite place! Get up early, go to Bailey's General Store and get some fresh bakery goods and coffee, go back and wake her up with that!
  11. How long has it been since you've Skyped? It's been video-capable for at least three or four years now.
  12. Awesome! Much preferred over LGG! Would love to see the uke version, as well.
  13. ! Love that song, especially when Miles did it!Does this guy live in the Grand Canyon State, or have you arranged some sort of distance learning with him? I'm definitely going to check out some DVDs - he really has a great teaching style.
  14. Lady Gaga = Dale Bozzio wannabe! But kudos for finishing.
  15. Corrected
  16. I was just thinking that would make a great finish in and of itself: candy leopard sparkle.
  17. Velo is French for bicycle. I don't speak French, but virtually all of the bicycle press uses the term (velonews.com, velo-retro.com, nycvelo.com, ad nauseum). Being a cycling enthusiast needing a Skype user name, I chose velo for bike and my last name. Goofy, but it worked. The HFC was the first message board I ever joined. Velorush was the only user name I'd ever used, so I just used that one.
  18. I've tried to convey to my kids what everyone was listening to when that came out and how completely radical it was in the day. They're starting to get it, but unless you were there I guess it isn't the same. The first time I first heard it flying north out of town in a friend's mid-70's Monte Carlo. It was summer, the windows were down and the stereo (likely a Craig R3 with Jensen Tri-axials like all us rednecks had in those days) was cranked. I, too, asked not 'WHO is that?' but 'WHAT is that?' Eruption didn't even strike me as being guitar.
  19. ^^ What he said! (I hope that's Happy Birthday!)
  20. Congratulations! Best to you! Let us know as soon as you have web site, contact info, FB... all that stuff!
  21. I am only a casual fan, owning only one DT CD and one LTE CD, but have found the drumming incredible. That said, I probably wouldn't have written such an announcement but would have allowed room for others to say those things for me (and had he not written them, others probably would have).
  22. ^^^What he said^^^
  23. Love me some reflectors. Nice mods, great looking guitar!
  24. Heck of a Dr. Pepper burp there around 1:30 and again around 1:44 and 2:05; guess that was why she was screaming before (esophageal pain?). It was better when she started singing. Looks like fun.
