ARM OF HAMER Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Yeah that is a beautiful guitar for sure!.................I would prefer to have "Crown" inlays though, IMHO they look better and more fitting to the look of the guitar. At almost 4K all in IF I were buying I would be looking at earlier "Sunburst" or "Special" with the "Crowns".
veatch Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 The Earthen Maple is a completely different guitar than the Sunburst or Special. The combination of the Limba and that uber-dense salvaged maple was a great combination. I regret selling mine, but I regret selling most guitars that I've had. : ) (though I agree - crowns, or even better, the Anniversary inlays would look better, IMHO) That's a beauty. Someone will be happy with it, I'm sure.
Cboss Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Can you see the minerals in the wood or are they just in there somewhere..

Just that if I were buying that guitar I would want Crowns instead oof the Victory inlays. I would think these days an all original "Bound and Crowned Hamer "Sunburst" in similar condition with the OHSC from the 70's would sell for that much, maybe more. That IS a beautiful and special guitar!
Travis Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Love those Earthen series guitars, and this one has Gravelins…. 🤤🤤🤤 An Earthen Tally is on my short list…
ib2010 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 This run,for whatever reason, are truly bell ringers. Clarity and beef. My favorite bucker guitar
Steve Haynie Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Seeing the victory inlays in person changed my opinion of them. Tradition has us fixed on crown inlays, and some can make the argument for whether they really do look better from a design standpoint. The Earthen Maple series came out when the victory inlays were in use, so they are part of that era.
HSB0531 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 What do the Anniversary inlays look like? And, I personally like the Victory inlays, although to me a Bound and Crowned Sunburst is the best looking version of the Sunburst.

I like the subtleness of it while being more than simple dots... <Unca Greg pic...>
HSB0531 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 I Like the Anniversary inlays. As you said, very subtle. And the 12th fret is a nice touch. Is that the one that had the very intricate tortoise shell binding?

Travis Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 I really like the anniversary inlays. Very much like the Talladega inlays which are dots with a 12th fret Victory. I love the more subtle look. But, I’ve always been more of a minimalist when it comes to aesthetic appointments.

(Jol's pic below) I remember the Hamer workshop blog and seeing how they stacked both horizontal and vertical layers. I'm guessing Mike S. did the work?
veatch Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 It was a team effort, but he certainly was involved. : )
