What is a Vanguard?

I spotted a 99 vanguard, it looks like an artist to me, could anyone comment on the differences?

Nothing If they both have humbuckers... but I believe Vanguards have p90's

I don't think I'm going to buy this, but it is pretty cool.. the pictures make it look like a matte gold but he described it to me as high gloss gold sparkle

I am told the clear can yellow a good bit resulting in a finish that resembles the pictures in that listing. I think it's cool. 

Could that guitar as-configured (TV Jones and a tremolo) be an acceptable analog for a Jet? Does anyone know what neck these had (Vintage / Modern)?

My Vanguard (99) has a D shape. Pretty substantial carve. Most possibly it is what later became the "Vintage" carve. My 00 Newport has a big neck too, but I think it is a tad wider. The Vanguard is more baseball bat. It's a great neck, but perhaps nothing you shred with ease.

Never played one. But my Vanguard is from 1999, so it seems likely.
