diablo175 Posted yesterday at 02:36 PM Posted yesterday at 02:36 PM Every self respecting, wanna-be rocker needs to own a V at some point. And yes, I've owned a few but while both had interesting back stories, ultimately they didn't stay. This one aspires to (better) be different. Starting with a 25" PRS scale (my compromise between preferred Fender and traditional Gibby scales) and ending with a Shark tremolo, this is gonna be unique. 6 Quote
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted yesterday at 04:42 PM Posted yesterday at 04:42 PM (edited) I have a basic V. It’s a Gibson. Natural Antique from 2022. Hated the Burstbuckers so dropped a set of Zakk Wylde EMG Actives in there. It rocks and has been my gigging guitar! I am moving it on though. Interested to see what this Shark Trem actually is? I’m a BIG Floyd (Gotoh) fan… Edited 10 hours ago by Victor (Fret Friend) Spelling correction 2 Quote

Tremolos & Bridges - Shark Guitars Looks pretty amazing, especially the easily accessible "fixed" lever. ETA: HOLY 1,000 THREAD COUNT BEDDING! Yeah, the ability to go from fully floating to fixed is precisely what got me interested. But the rest of the unique functions sold me on it. Certainly not cheap but I chase optimum trem function and performance the way y'all chase tone. This is likely a one and done experiment though, I could envision having one on a super Strat IF it delivers the goods. That's a big 'IF.' 😜 Edited yesterday at 06:58 PM by diablo175 4 Quote

To again coin a phrase, and "at what price would a singular example of said product require?" 800 sheets for a tremolo 😲 I have bought cars for less than a tenth of that! It looks great but I'll take my chances with my Gotoh Floyd's until my numbers come in 👍 5 Quote
scottcald Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Yeah, looks cool, but I wouldn't drop 800 clams on it. I'm with Victor. The Ibanez Edge original was the best trem I've used. It never went out of tune. To me the locking studs give it the edge. 2 Quote

The Shark is closer to a Kahler mechanically (and as someone who is NOT a fan of Kahler cam bridges, that in of itself is somewhat remarkable). Per my earlier post, the selling point of the Shark is being able to lock it, on the fly, into a fixed bridge. Not aware of the Edge being capable of that, or am I missing something? I'm not trying to sell anyone on a $800 bridge. If I weren't in the financial situation that I am, I wouldn't be even thinking about it, either. But it does address numerous issues and sets up the distinct possibility of only needing to bring one ax to a gig/appearance. I can do fixed bridge, drop tuned and fully floating tunes all on the same ax. To me, that's worth the 800 clams. YMMV 3 2 Quote

It's a set neck construction so, you're likely seeing where the neck is glued in and then routed over for the neck p'up? I need to ask Attila about that... Edited 11 hours ago by diablo175 1 Quote
Steve Haynie Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago That trem may be expensive, but for someone who has a collection of guitars there will be a time to start expanding into experimental parts. That is how a Peterson strobe tuner ended up in my possession. @diablo175 has a good reason for the Shark. Go for it! 5 Quote

Just push the bar straight toward the floor, and it’s locked. Grab it to use it, and it’s unlocked. Quote

BUT... can the Kahler Steeler do drop D or any other number of alternate tunings without a D Tuna and/or unlocking the nut? Do the saddles on the Steeler have 3 direction adjustability to set almost any intonation, action or string spacing? Seriously though watch the video- they list, in much greater detail, it's attributes and capabilities. I can save you and anyone else a good bit of time and pointless debate by saying I've done my due diligence in researching the options. Ya know, like, trem systems are kinda my thing. 2 Quote
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago It’s a great piece of kit no doubt! Almost like a tremolo version of the Evertune system (I didn’t get on with that tbh). Price will stop people buying it unfortunately. A properly setup Floyd is good enough for me… 1 Quote

Not arguing or trying to convince you. Just saying they’ve had that ability. If it’s the be all end all, will you put it on other guitars or get one of theirs? Edited 4 hours ago by scottcald Quote

I'd consider putting it on another build. But that's contingent on factors outside of the functions I've already cited. I might see if I can get a Steeler on my SG Diablo. Then I'd have another Swiss army knife utility guitar that could also channel the appropriate vibe for the classic hard rock tunes like AC/DC, Sabs, Alice Cooper, Zep, etc. 1 Quote

I prefer the underside of upper V point and at the neck heel/ neck/ body joint- just looks cleaner but minimizing neck dive is king, here. 1 Quote

Is it me or do those Diablo SGs seem to to be begging for a regular or reverse Firebird headstock? 1 Quote
