Guest pirateflynn Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Well my Kids Jiu Jitsu Tourney thread was moved to the Outer Circle and so I'm curious......What are the guidlines for content on the Main Board? When I first joined I was told that Family content was allowed. Some members don't subscribe to the Outer Circle because they are not interested in political discussions, nudity or the more graphic topics but they might be interested in non music related family issues. Plus, any one under 18 yrs would not be able to view family related topics on the OC. As an example, I personally thought DavidE's Kelly threads should have been on the Main board and said so. Obviously, nobody wants to see the place overrun by threads about kitty cats and babies and such, but done sparingly it might be okay.Anyway, what are the damned guidlines? You could pin this if you like Big Brotha'........
Cary Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 You are correct, it seems like the purpose of the OC has evolved... It was my understanding when it was established that it WAS for the political arguments and nudity - stuff that might be "offensive" to some members (or non-members who might stop by and wrongly think that the views on the board represented those of Hamer). Ironically, I've noticed some people lately getting put out by political discussions on the OC - guess we need an Outer Outer Circle
kizanski Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 The Main board, as I understand it, is for all things pertaining to music.Everything else either goes to the OC (or to the FS board). That said, I don't believe there is a cut and dried "guidline" so to speak.

When I joined I was told by Ted that family content was allowed on the Main Board and that The OC was for topics of a more graphic nature. I would appreciate some guidlines.
LordOfTheThighs Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Beginning to wonder that myself. BlackMagic's Dean EVO guitar thread got movedalso. Does that not qualify as music related?I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple of guitar manufacturer threads with other than Hamers as the subject matter. (EX ... the latest Gibson bashing thread ... oops, that's half of the threads anyway ... HAHAHA!)What "bird-dogged" the Dean thread for relocation? It's not a big deal to me ... just curious, since PF asked the question.
Punkavenger Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I thought it was just Hamer related ... I was a wee bit apprehensive about asking the Govt. Mule question !
MrGuitarguy Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 You have to, or at least had to (I don't know if it has changed), make a donation to the board in order to get access to the Outer Circle. This helped cover the costs for Ted to keep the server up and running and gave contributors a bonus. The outer circle is more of an anything goes type of place. However, I have no problem with member posts, that don't start flame wars, on the main board. In fact, I've always been in favor of them. That's one of the things I liked about the old, old board. If I post a question I need help with (like my cell phone question a while ago) I know I won't get nearly as many helpful responses on the OC because not as many people have access. Here's An Idea:Perhaps we should have another section for all members? (The mid circle, so to speak) One that is for all non-music posts, but does not allow nudity, political or potential flame war types of posts. Those types of posts made there could then be moved to the outer circle. This way everything is much more clear cut as to where to post. Music here. Non-music on the new section. Risky stuff on the Outer Circle. It's just an idea. I like things simple, and that seems simple enough. Anyone else?
kizanski Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Beginning to wonder that myself. BlackMagic's Dean EVO guitar thread got movedalso. Does that not qualify as music related? Well, there the exception: All Dean content (and all threads started by BlackMagic for that matter) automatically get moved off the main board. Both are considered non-music and non-sensical by nature.
tafkathundernotes Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I just did a search for the word "prayers" on the main board looking 30 days and older. I got a page and a half of threads. Personally, I consider this group to be family-like and don't mind the personal stuff on the main board. I don't think that a kids Jiu Jitsu tournament belongs in amongst boobies, asses, legs, sex with a goat, or Volkswagens. ......... ..........Especially Volkswagens! I have put non-guitar related stuff both on the main board and the OC. Maybe we could have an "HFC Family" forum for all the prayers, kids, new cars, and "Thanks to _______" posts. I'm not big on the idea though. Before anybody gets excited about segregating the board even further, take a look at how that can be taken a bit too seriously: http://forums.carvinmuseum.com/ Threads can sit for days with no answer in that place because it takes forever to check all the different "rooms" in the forum. Not much confusion about where things go!
BCR Greg Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 This is the only Dean cool enough for the main board.
kizanski Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 This is the only Dean cool enough for the main board. Amen to that!Is there a Dean Martin board? I'd join that!
Guest galejt Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 When the moon hits your eye Like a big pizza pie That's amore. When an eel bites your hand And that's not what you planned That's a moray. When our habits are strange <---HFC content! And our customs deranged That's our mores. When your horse munches straw And the bales total four That's some more hay. When Othello's poor wife She gets stabbed with a knife That's a Moor, eh? When a Japanese knight Used a sword in a fight That's Samurai.
MCChris Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I wish I had some across-the-board guidelines for you, but I don't. I'm sure that's about as frustrating (and yes, lame) as having Hamer say "no" to something 10 times and then saying "yes" to the same thing later on down the line. However, something tells me "hard and fast rules" would not be preferable to most people here. The Fender and Les Paul forums have that vibe down pat.I'm not sure how quickly it was moved, but threads like yours are often left on the main board for a bit to generate some responses, and then moved to the OC, because on the main board we'd like to see only threads that pertain to Hamer, guitar gear in general, music in general, HFC-related events or the musical pursuits of HFC members. With regard to OC access, I'm not sure Ted is taking donations at this time, other than via the new merch store (a thread about which is pinned above). If you think you should have OC access but don't, or if you flat out just want access, PM me and I'll hook you up. No worries.
darc Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Not a big deal either way, but I cast one vote against adding a 3rd circle. When I'm "making my rounds" on the web, I hate sites with tons of sub-topics, where you just don't know where to begin. Inevitably, everybody starts ignoring all but one of them anyway. One on-topic, one off-topic seems to be a good balance. From what I've gathered lately, nearly everything music/music gear related goes here (was surprised to hear about the Dean thread getting moved) everything else on the OC. I guess that's a little difficult if you want to post pics of your children and would prefer that they weren't in the same forum as a 20 page thread about boobies... but that's the internet for ya.
BCR Greg Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 There are enough boards on here. No need for more.
bluexj Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 How many boards are there? The only two I see when I log in are the Hamer Fan Club Message Board and the For Sale/Trade board. Am I supposed to see more? What about the Outer Circle? How do I subscribe to that?
Guest pirateflynn Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 There are enough boards on here. No need for more. I agree with this. It should be up the member to monitor him/herself by choosing very few non music related topics to post on the Main board and hopefully things in good taste that would be agreeable to the majority of members.I think non music, family related threads should be allowed on the Main board, in fact they are allowed. Just have a look on the last 5-6 pages and you will find some. As an example, A member leaving the country, A caption thread, A favorite podcast. In the past, I have read threads where one member offers to trade porno. There have been threads where dealers show their new inventory, personal arguements, etc. Our avatars and signatures are viewable on the Main board and so for awhile everytime one guy posted we had to look at a naked man's hairy butt! Now, I'm no prude and I get a kick out of most of this stuff and that's why I think most of the content should be on the Main board I myself have posted Kids Jiu Jitsu 3 times in the 2 years I have been here but this is the 1st time it has been moved and so I think things have been changing lately. If you're going to move my threads I would like to have some guidelines and not have it done on a whim while other non music related threads and postings remain, or just leave them alone.
BCR Greg Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Now, I'm no prudeThat's when you lost me. I remember when you wouldn't streak the high school gym, when you wouldn't kiss the gym teacher, when you wouldn't do THOSE photos of you and the......
Guest pirateflynn Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 THOSE photos of you and the...... I have those photos.
MCChris Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I myself have posted Kids Jiu Jitsu 3 times in the 2 years I have been here but this is the 1st time it has been moved and so I think things have been changing lately. If you're going to move my threads I would like to have some guidelines and not have it done on a whim while other non music related threads and postings remain, or just leave them alone. Well, there are no guidelines, and things do get moved on a whim. So not a lot we can help you with regarding those two requests until Ted schedules a mod retreat in Cozumel where we can discuss such matters and draw up a formal guideline sheet.I'm fine with leaving member-related posts on the main board. That opens it up to home improvement questions, requests for legal advice and the like, so if everyone's fine with that, OK by me. Let me add that I usually honor the topic starter's decision to put a thread in the OC when it would have been fine on the main board. So if you're wondering how to get rid of moles in your yard and post a thread about it in the OC, I probably won't move it to the main board.
Guest galejt Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 ...for awhile everytime one guy posted we had to look at a naked man's hairy butt! You say that like it's a bad thing!?Let us never forget. What is one man's hairy butt is another man's hairy erotica. Some people see the hairy butt as half full, other people see the hairy as butt full. Some people like the soft pack, others like kool-aid in the soft refreshing morning dew lazily dream, dream, dreaming away....
Lockbody Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Did you delete my post? You just dropped it in the wrong place.
