WTB - Eclipse 12 string

Who's got one gathering dust?

Open to just about any condition, finish, etc. Reasonable mods OK. Will pay premium for near mint, OHSC, unusual color, etc. I would expect to pay somewhere in the $700 - $900 range for an all original, excellent condition guitar. Immediate cash or lots of interesting stuff to trade if you prefer.

That's right, twist the knife, Sparky.

Beleive me, that's not the only one I regret selling.

AND you sold that birdseye newport TOO!! WTF

You are correct, sir.

Here's the deal:

I sold the Newport 12 after picking up an absolutely gorgeous Rickenbacker 381 vintage series 12 string. Who needs 2 electric 12's, right? The Rick was beautiful, cool, and had two extra helpings of mojo and vibe. Unfortunately, it didn't "play like buttah". I actually got cramps trying to contort my fingers into the tight clusters required by that narrow little neck. Then, I had to change the strings. Anyone who has ever gone through that process still bears the mental and physical scars. The Rick is now gone and most of the string holes in my fingers have healed, though I still wake up screaming from time to time.

The Rick experience reminded me of how user friendly the Eclipse 12 is. I might be interested in a used Newport 12 if an Eclipse doesn't surface.

I'll have to get pics of mine up later tonight. It's a '95 in a cool flip-flop Green/Blue finish and it unreal. I was a Ric devotee all through the 80s and into the mid-90s, and actually got pretty good at the quick slotted peghead string change thing. Sadly, as cool as my 360s were, they suffered from the Ric cramped neck syndrome as well, like they all do (except for the 660). I ditched mine because I had a 1275 that did it all, but I got an Eclipse XII shortly after that and ended up selling the 1275.

The Eclipse XII is just THAT good. I would sell it and my Yellow SS-1 w/LEDs, only to fund a new 12 string though I think...

I was a Ric devotee as well, had a '67 366-12, which was a 'convertible' 360-12 with the little metal comb between the pickups. It was a pain to restring, didn't intonate well until I got the aftermarket McGuinn bridge, and even with my smallish hands was kind of cramped to play.

I don't miss it, but it seems that every time an Eclipse 12 comes available, I'm paying a lawyer (who, in turn, I suppose, is funding an Eclipse 12 purchase..... ;) )

For the record, I have never taken a dime from Tom!

I used to own Cmatthes' flip flop Eclipse XII. I've not seen another one of those (it is NOT the candy green or candy blue-it's BOTH), although I'd guess that there would have to be more than one of them out there. I swapped it to him when I got another 12 that I'm very happy with.

Here are a few quick snaps - sorry for any dust/smudges and poor photo quality! This one truly does go from a brilliant Candy Green to a dark Lake Placid Blue finish, sometimes with a hint of purple. I should probably try it in different light:

Did you ever track down a 12?

I may be thinking about something...

Let me know.

And just to add to the confusion, my natural birdseye maple Newport 12 will be going up for sale in the next month or two!

Jon, if that's April or so, look me up. That and/or an Eclipse 12 are on the list and I should be better by then.
