Armitage Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Just like my '76, 'cept mine has a white guard.
Steve Haynie Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Rick Medlocke has used an Ibanez Destroyer for years. It was his main guitar all through the Blackfoot glory days, and then he used it with Lynyrd Skynyrd.
kizanski Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 It's nice to see an honest description that is devoid of unrealistic adjectives like "mint" and "pristine."
MCChris Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 It's nice to see an honest description that is devoid of unrealistic adjectives like "mint" and "pristine."Plus it's refreshing to see the rarely (if ever) used "sounds like butter" versus "plays like butter."

I saw that and cracked up.

serial Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 What would the seller do if I bought this and complained"Hey, I can't believe this sounds like butter"?

MCChris Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 "Sounds like butter" .... what a Country Crock.
Steve Haynie Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Would a vegetarian play something that sounds like margarine to avoid any reference to dairy products?
Armitage Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 $1,763.88 I guess all those chips and dings and the gold being worn off kept the price down.
serial Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 $1,763.88 I guess all those chips and dings and the gold being worn off kept the price down.Original Destroyers didn't have gold hardware. The Rocket Rolls did. At least none of the ones I owned had it! But mine didn't sound like butter either.

Armitage Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Well, like he said, non original pickups, and they look like worn gold (to me in the photos anyways). Here's my '76, the serial number J765633 is 3 off my old '76 J765636... The Neck is the original Super 70 with the cover removed (in the case) and the bridge is a Hamer Slammer from the mid 80s, that original Super 70 is in the case too.
Mr Fuzzy Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 The knobs are not original. They are later ibanez knobs with the rubber grippy strip. And there are no finger slicers. Switch tip is not original. The pickguard is not original either. The shape is wrong and I don't think they ever came with a black guard. If they did it still is not the proper shape. At that price ($1,763.88) a Hamer standard is a much better deal. I have a 77 Destroyer and it is nice, but those Ibanezes are getting a bit too pricy for what they are. Here is mine, non original hardware and pickguard. I have put the original white guard back on recently. The hardware was originaly chrome (really pitted) so I replaced the bridge with gold gotoh parts & tuners, and added the gold pickup covers.
Punkavenger Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 it's getting so, with construction work slowing down and prices rising on food and gas (not included in the inflation index, by the way) not to mention guitars... $1,700 for a Ibanez? I remember when a friend tried to trade me one of those for some pot. (really!) Who's got the money for that kind of thing with the economy the way it is ... baby boomer blackwater employees? When I first started in the HFC there were all kinds of Hamers I could buy...and afford, only two years ago or so ... now I cant even afford a Chappie! Who wants to buy my $3000 Daytona ? ... you'll be sorry you didn't get it now!
