MCChris Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Looks like an old-school shimmed Sustain Block to me.

My first and BEST Hamer sustainblock 1980 Special was bought on eBay. Transaction went supersmooth, the seller was absolutely correct and I had it at a price... Actually, she's my cheapest guitar and I like her best! Still sending the seller pics from me performing with her! Bernard
bmenary Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 What is a sustain block bridge- Is that a factory hamer bridge?- His shipping is insane. $108 to 80401. serial Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 What is a sustain block bridge- Is that a factory hamer bridge?- The standard Hamer bridge on Sunbursts, Specials, Prototypes, etc from 1978-1983. There was a version of the bridge from 1977-mid 1978 that had a baseplate that was nearly identical to a hardtail Strat bridge, with similar saddles to the later Hamer bridges. After 1983, they still used that bridge on some guitars, but it was no longer standard on anything in their catalog agaim until 1989 when the flattop Sunburst came back. That sustain block bridge was a little different than the original though.
bubs_42 Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I couldn't help it, I through my hat in the ring... My wife is going to kill me.
jisham Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 "Stand not included."Screw that...no reason to bid now.
kizanski Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 His shipping is insane. $108 to 80401.So is the bidding. Over two grand for a 'burst with dots?!
dirk Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 His shipping is insane. $108 to 80401. So is the bidding. Over two grand for a 'burst with dots?! Please keep in mind that it is all original and in very good condition. And it has a very low S/N. And not to forget it's a pre Fender
belgian Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Those Aussies are 1) stupid 2) smarter the the whole HFC???????????????????????????
dirk Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Those Aussies are 1) stupid 2) smarter the the whole HFC???????????????????????????In the long run they are smarter - that's for sure.
Feynman Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 I guess the bidder didn't notice the 'no stand' comment. He or she is in a for a BIG surprise upon opening that package (sometime next year, when it finally arrives).Blasted weak dollar (ours, not theirs)...
Steve Jackson Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 You guys are right, it is a lot to pay, though, our dollar is the highest it has been to the US dollar in twenty years!Bummer, I don't get the stand???
Feynman Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Steve - Congrats on the guitar - looks NICE! Welcome to the forums! I for one would like to see better pics of that thing once you get it.Don't worry about the stand - it didn't look original to me anyway.
Steve Jackson Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Hey Feynman, thanks for your kind welcome. Jol mentioned the site when I was visiting the factory last month. It's great to be here! I will forward some pics when I get the guitar. I have a 1980 Sunburst in amber as well, plus a 1993 Special in Black.ThanksSteve
belgian Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Congratulations on the Sunburst ! So "Diggers" (that's how Aussies are called here) are smarter ! And now : full report of the factory visit, please.
Steve Jackson Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Hi Belgian, thank you!Digger is a "World War 1" term for the Ausralian & New Zealand (ANZAC's) soldiers. Though it does get used like Mate, Pal, Buddy, Chum, Dude, Digger etc.Factory Tour: I was lucky enough to get a personal tour of the factory with Joel, Frank & Stephen Goodrich, as I am the Australian Distributor for Hamer Guitars ..... Well hopefully things wont change after the sale to Fender. Thanks,Steve
