When did Hamer make carved-top Sunbursts?

Most Sunbursts are flat-top, right? Well, I saw one in a local shop with the huge stadium logo (says "Sunburst" under it) and a carved-top. Pretty dark burst too. I think the serial started with a 2, and the neck was 3-piece, so I assume it's a '92. But I would have guessed it was a Studio not a Sunburst.

Hamer made a half-dozen or so carved top Sunbursts in the original run (77-85) and one in '86 that I know of. I have an '84 and an '85 (Sportomatic and Electraglide). All that I've seen had sustain blocks.

The Sunburst got a carved top in 1990/1991. The Sunburst was "reissued" in 1989 with a flat top and was a bit different from the original, not a true reissue. The headstock was more of the paddle style, the sustain block bridge was different and the tops were two pieces of maple veneer, rather than one. Pickups were Duncan as opposed to the Dimarzio made ones. The specs changed a year or so into production to include the carved top and a stop/tuneomatic setup. The "Sunburst" logo disappeared in 1992 (IIRC) and the guitar became the Studio.

The one I found has a stop/tuna. No sustainblock. Dot neck, body binding only.

Sounds like a standard '92 Sunburst. They were available with crowns and fingerboard binding and many had Floyd Roses. Cmatthes (and some other HFCers) has a gorgeous one.

I had an early to mid 80's carve top Sunburst with factory Floyd. It was custom made for a guy who owned the local Hamer dealer, Pete Petty of A,L, & M. Pete later told me that one was built around the same time as his for Andy Summers. Wish that one hadn't been stolen. I tried to find it in the Hamer log books (I never wrote down the serial # or took pics) at the last open house but ran out of time before we had to leave.

I had one w/ stadium logo..Sunburst logo underneath.. dots, JUMBO frets.. bound body.. stop/tuna bridge.. in a honey/dark brown with a nice top..

I'd do a lotta trading to find it/get it back.. one of the few I really miss.

$700 a good price in 7.5 condition?

I'd say!

I wouldn't sell my '91 for anywhere NEAR that either.

Here are a couple more mid-'80s custom jobs made for my visionary local Hamer dealer at the time (R.I.P., Sam):

Oh man! To me, that guitar just fuckin' screams rock and roll. One of the coolest Hamers I've seen posted here.

I've got a '91 in Salmon Blush. Crowned and bound. Nice. Don't really like the thin neck, but the top is gorgeous. It also sounds pretty damn good.

So these 90-92 sunbursts didn't come with binding on the neck or crowns standard?

They came both ways.
