Hamerica Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 That - that is really a stellar guitar.Hamerica
sonic1974 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Pirateflynn, How many 70's Hamers do you have? I'm jealous! lolrob
Travis Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Sweet pics. Kinda makes me want to pull out my 78 right now. And yeah, how many 70's Hamers do you have now?
Guest bondedbybrick Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Ken - that's a beauty!! Thought you were looking for a natural one? Did that one from the "hotel room" deal? Curious as to when in 1977 it was built.....Give us a tone report soon, especially as compared to your 78Derek
Guest pirateflynn Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Did that one from the "hotel room" deal? Hey, I'm not sure I like the way that sounds! LOLActually, this was a pre-hotel room deal (the night before). There were two 4 digits and a '77 Sunburst in the room and I walked out with the Sunburst.
MCChris Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Damn boy, you know how to sniff these out. That one's clean as a whistle!I owned a '77 in natural with dots (first non-sunburst Sunburst, I'm told) and structurally it was a fantastic instrument with a glorious Louisville-Slugger-on-steroids neck. Just didn't do it for me soundwise, even after a pickup swap.
serial Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Curious as to when in 1977 it was built.....It isn't in Hamer's record books, but judging by the ones that are, I'd say late October-November 1977.
bubs_42 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Wow, I don't see how you do it. I can't find one and your just packing them in...
Travis Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 No shit. When you get tired of hoarding all the old ones, give me a call.
Guest pirateflynn Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Wow, I don't see how you do it. I can't find one and your just packing them in...I had a very tempting trade to make this happen, plus it was in the works for weeks and weeks.Besides, you do know where one is RIGHT NOW. Get after it!
Travis Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Besides, you do know where one is RIGHT NOW. Get after it! Care to let the rest of us in on the location of said Sunburst? Or perhaps just me?
Guest pirateflynn Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Damn boy, you know how to sniff these out. That one's clean as a whistle! Yeah, this one is silly clean. Deep rich finish over a sweet top. I never considered myself a Cherry Burst guy but this one has changed my mind. The nicest fingerboard I have seen on a vintage Hamer and figured inlays, too. As serial said yesterday ...... "Sunbursts are HOT!"
belgian Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 It's almost a twin to my '78 (0115) - February made. By far my favourite one. A guitar to be buried with ! Great score !
flattop Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Hey man nice looking Sunburst very bright top.Is the string spacing wider on those early shimmed bridges than the later non shimmed bridges?Whats the neck profile?
Travis Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 You know, when you get tired of it, it would go pretty well with one I've got lying around over here......
MTM105 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 But, would you trade it for a Les Paul built during the same era?
Guest pirateflynn Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 But, would you trade it for a Les Paul built during the same era? I had one! Awesome. Whats the neck like ? The neck on this one is wide/flat.
jerseydrew Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 But, would you trade it for a Les Paul built during the same era? I had one! Randy Rhoads
Kilroy is all about... Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 'I had a very tempting trade to make this happen, plus it was in the works for weeks and weeks.' weeks and weeks is an accurate description for this deal. Actually, the Pirate saved the day when he accepted this amazing sunburst (and cash) in trade for 0150, a black opaque STD (the younger, yet bigger brother to the 'black bastard' sunburst 8-213). the original sunburst 'black bastard' from '78.. is now united with the subsequent, bigger and younger 0150 This Pirate is a great dude to hang with for sure and he attention to detail is quite tight and always rights. Rest assure, if any of his guitars go on sale, then you know the description meets the actual guitar. Props for JJ, who I know is quite pissed at me, but he's a righteous dude in his unique way and I truly appreciate the fact he sold it to me, so sorry 'bout making you mad. I had to personally deliver both 0064 and 7-0072 to tokyo tapes and the pirate because I no longer trust the shipping industry, because if it gets broken, then all parties lose...anyone feel the same way?! Now, we've got to schedule a hamerjam in either Socal or Reno...let's do it...shout the
