cornjulio Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Well...I had some bad ebay experience this week but thanks to you guys I didn't fall for the scam (Serial no. 0219). Now I'm wondering if it's actually possible to find an old seventies or eighties Standard and how much they go for? Maybe you can let me know your opinions on that?ThanksC.
cmatthes Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Of course they exist. Be prepared to part with about $4-$5 grand for a decent one.
serial Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Of course they exist. Be prepared to part with about $4-$5 grand for a decent one. Or more. Unless the seller has no idea what he or she has. I'm down to these two lovelies...

cmatthes Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Ditto. I picked up #0150 (Black, bound and crowned) for $499 at a local shop that deals primarily in used gear. It was tagged at $699, but when I offered to pay cash on the spot, the price magically dropped. That wasn't all that long ago either!I snagged #0137 + $300 cash in a trade for my late '80s RI Strat too.Deals can be found still on those, but they are rather few and far between - the word has definitely gotten out, especially in the last 4-5 years.
cornjulio Posted July 21, 2008 Author Posted July 21, 2008 Thanks for all the info. I guess I need some good luck then but I'll keep my eyes open.I'm probably the only one checking on ebay regularly....
veatch Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 With the economy the way it is around these parts, deals are showing up more often. I'm still looking for the $550 Watson, though... And JGale - nice new sig. I Googled "Find people who <etc>..." and got 206,000 hits!

belgian Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 How I got mine: A guy called me a few years ago, if I was interested in an old Hamer, and wanted to show it. He brought it to my place and I bought it. Simple, ain't it ? It might have helped I am the only Hamer collector over here....

belgian Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I meant say: Great looking Standard. Did you find it in Belgium? Local guy who sold it, he got it from Holland. Paid 3000 $ for it. I only play it ocasionally (and mostly when I see a topic like this) and I am always amazed by how it sounds and feels.

Beautiful, thanks for sharing... sk That's #0096 (the last one with the long oval control cavity route I believe) and it's officially called Blueburst (it's actually bluer in person). The log books have it nicknamed "Jaws". It's a very early '78.
