Tom Petty/Black Crowes show

Once again, Petty put on a tremendous show. The Black Crowes were good, if not a bit too jam band-y for my tastes, but still delivered a strong set. Met up with BroChris and my nephew, I brought my daughter along. Was walking back to our seats with a pretzel for my daughter when I got called out by the HFCs ArnieZ who had driven down to the show from CT (probably got there quicker than it took me to negotiate the Schuylkill Xpressway on a friday afternoon!). Got to chat with him and his son a bit between Crowes and TP.

My daughter was thrilled (she just turned 8) at the whole show and we got treated to a backstage tour and hangout for the better part of the afternoon/evening preshow (thanks Ron!) which she loved, although I think she was just as excited to see Kate Hudson stageside as she was to meet the guys in the bands.

If you get the chance to see Petty this tour, he puts on an excellent show and there's tons of vintage guitar eye candy to see as well.

Agreed - great show, and always good to see another HFC'er out there. Good to see ya again, Arnie!

Mike Campbell was slouched in a chair talking on his cell phone at the next table, and I swear that I didn't recognize him at first. He's sporting dreads now, quite a different look for him.

The Hbreakers were absolutely ON, and Mike Campbell pulled out a 1/2 size Verdiglo (Greenburst) Rick mando that looked like a mini 330 (with Ac'cent vibrato too!). Very neat stuff.

The Crowes were also fantastic, although Chris was fairly quiet - more Faces-era Rod dancing/prancing than singing. They are definitely doing more of a "jam" feel to things, but it was great all around. Lots of amazing slide work was a bonus.

Looking forward to catching the show again in Late July when they roll through Merriweather Post. Check it out if you get the chance!

I might try to catch them in ACNJ when they hit the Borgata. The Crowes are there the week after Petty. Hmmm....

I saw the show here in Tampa. It was a good show. Always good to someone who can actually play live.

I woulda loved to see a double feature

like this. Old man Petty and the now

also old Crows. Cool.

I saw a guy named Rodney Crowell from

Nashville live this weekend. Great band, great

songs. He used to write a lot of songs

for Emmy Lou Harris. I also saw Nine Inch Nails for the first

time this weekend. They where really

great.

Last weekend I saw Billy Idol

at the Donington Festival. He still rules.

Summertime is a good season for good concerts!

Who's in the Crowes these days besides the brothers? I thought I read that the drummer is back in the fold...

I saw Petty several years ago when he toured with Bob Dylan, I've been a fan ever since.

It was a weekend of awesome Steve drummers. Crowes, Petty on friday night and then Steve Gadd with JT on sat night.

This was my first Petty concert and it was a great show. I liked the Black Crows as well, but I gotta say Robinson is not the greatest front man. I guess I just don't love his dancing :) Missed Kate Hudson, who I'm sure I would have gotten a kick out of seeing. Petty and Campbell were pulling out one nice guitar after another. Many companies represented, but not Hamer. Last, but not least, Always great to see Steve and Chris, enjoyed our little chat and the chance to say hey. You guys got a couple of really cute kids!!

I recieved the "Concert for George" DVD as a bday gift. Is it just me, or did TP/Heartbreakers come onstage and proceed to suck ALL of the energy out of the room? Bad night, stage jitters...WTF?

There was energy in the room?

Phhhwaaahahahaha! Kiz, you slay me!

OK, maybe it should have read, "whatEVER energy was in the room."

RobB, I kinda get how you'd think that. Kiz, I *don't* get how you'd say that. The level of heartfelt emotion that night was through the roof. To me, emotion=energy. I mean, it wasn't concert for Layne (or Cliff, or Kurt, or Freddie). George's music is a bit mellower.

Also, I have to sat that Ron looks GREAT in that pic, and much better than at Concert For George.

Mini Matthi? :P:):P:D

Sorry El... I didn't feel it. If I want emotional energy, I'll watch General Hospital.

Different strokes I guess, but I'm not a fan of 95% of the artists that were on that stage (nor was I a fan of Harrison, so there you go).

I do agree with you about one thing though: You're right about my "Mini Matthi" line. That WAS funny!

Ah. There's the rub.

I liked Harrison, really dig Petty, but never liked the Travelling Wilburys for all of their "star power".

"Mini Matthai", indeed! Too F'in funny.

I was always a Harrison fan, but think that Jeff Lynne ELO'd him (and the Wilburys) a little too much. Love his slide playing - very emotive.

Ron said that one of the highlights at the concert for George was when it was getting late at the Albert Hall and his little girl was crying a little bit (after a long day and a longer evening), McCartney stopped in his tracks, came over to talk to her and made sure that she got a little treat. Oh yeah, seeing and playing with all those legends was also pretty okay!

Jeff Lynne's stamp is way too intrusive for me. It's like he throws a flanger on the entire master or something. I think he ruined a lot of good records with whatever it is he does.

Yet another thing wrong with Kiz..... :)

That's just the tip of the iceberg, Eidelberg.
