Willcutts, Hamer Studio

Me either, but I like the trem.

I am enjoying our private conversation here. I hope no one ruins this moment.

Well it didn't last long :D

Maple top, Wilkinson VSV tremolo, 25 1/2" scale....geez take away the chambered body and you pretty much have a Mirage Maple Top.

Or a PRS!

This would be a great guitar, I was thinking Ebony Board, Sustainblock, Ultimate Top, (Wide Wavy Flames)..

It sure looks as though they'll do it.

Aren't most PRS guitars 25" scale though? I know what you mean though about basic concept.

One big no-no on that Hamer Studio for me is the "no locking tuners" option to go with the tremolo :D Kudos to Hamer for building a CE22/Mirage Maple Top alternative in that particular Studio, but personally I think the Mirage was a better platform for that kind of guitar than the Studio is (blade selector switch, locking tuners, better upper fret access, etc.). Too bad Hamer never saw fit to introduce a Mirage Maple Top Custom w/ binding, ebony fretboard, and crown/victory inlays. It might have sold better than the version they marketed back in the mid-late 90's, especially seeing the sales success of the PRS CE line :P

That top does nothing for me.

That is a disappointing top. I like something like this from the mid-90s ...

Thanks for taking the picture Mistah Greg....

I wouldn't be too disappointed if that top was on my guitar. It appears to have a typical Studio neck instead of the Mirage type with shallow peghead angle and volute.

I can't understand why they went went that electronics cavity route/cover plate shape. With the switch moved it doesn't need to be that big unless there is a preamp or battery hiding in there. To me it looks odd because it touches the rear trem cover plate.

I'd rather have a PRS.

I think I hear your Mom over at Birds and Moons calling you... :D

The Willcutt Studio does nothing for me. I would rather get an old Mirage II or Mirage Maple Top. I always liked the Mirage body shape, just different enough from the Studio to be interesting.

You're not the only one. I mean, it has been there for like 2 years :P

I would take a Mirage II or a PRS CU22 over that in a second. In terms of the OP's idea, I don't see why Hamer wouldn't do everything you want; they done all those things on other guitars fairly recently.

Why no?

Wow. Is that finish Jazzburst or Tobacco Burst?

Is that a 25.5" scale, BTW? I think that was the compelling feature when i saw the Willcutt guitar.

Speaking of which, i wonder how the Studio balances with a 25.5" scale. Advantage of the Mirage, IMHO (call it Watson if you will...) is the balance with the offset horn.

Too bad i hate valutes... :P

I don't think the balance would be different on the 25.5" studio. If you compare the 25.5" Studio at Willcutts to their regular ones, you can see that the fretboard extends further into the body. It looks like the "platform" is the same, they just made the fretboard longer and probably moved the bridge back. One of the higer-ups at Seymour Duncan has a 25.5" junior (Evan Skopp if I remember correctly; he's posted about it on the Duncan forum). If you really want to know, you might want to ask a question there.

Yeah, Evan's Jr is a 25.5" scale. And it looks absolutlely killer in the pics.

Well the Willcutts guitar is and interesting piece. The Scale length would be nice for an alternative to all of my 24.75 guitars and my Daytona. But!, you take what you can get from this guitar and make another it would be alot better. 25.5 Hamer Studio, Ultimate Top, Ebony Board, SustainBlock and my set of Gregwinds and I think I have a winner.
