yngwie308 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 These are the "instructional" videos released awhile back on VHS. I have these without Japanese subtitles Yngwie is using a Fender Roc Pro 1000 and DOD 250, Korg Digital Delay, some reverb, remote Marshall 4X12". Yngwie's instructional videos always crack me up, "Now I will play it more slowly.." I guess some guys learn to play like him from these, but not many! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4bGoABlhvk...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=farm2-XPLPw...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ghTtYLZ4wY...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVSExpTmYLE...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9MYNeedUZs...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR_468l1-2U...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stNmznkLfAE...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEov7Lb94-Y...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0Kq4w-pfr8...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qedWcAteVTI...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HunR36rMRLc...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjFJ6eGzNck...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNfbqxdLYwk...player_embedded yngwie308
Hamer of the gods Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 My favorite Yngwie lesson!http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6628929648939980168
Feynman Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Someone gave me a tape with at least some of those lessons on it. I never got anything out of it, but then again I suck. His idea of playing slowly is a little off, or cocky, or both.
yngwie308 Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 Yngwie's Full Shred:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VGCARZL_SYhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfnCzGYEO1U...feature=channelhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLfl4ihCarE...feature=channelhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PAiiXQ4RBk...feature=channelStill playing at the top of his game, say what you will. His modern tone isn't his greatest, but his playing is still on fire, how many eighties guitarists can you say that about..?Caprici Di Diablo on the Perpetual Flame CD is awesome!yngwie308
atquinn Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 That's Yngwie J. Malmsteen to you! As far as tone goes, I thought he sounded pretty damn awesome in that new Full Shred clip you posted (after he turned the wah off, that is). -Austin

I really wasn't sure which Yngwie Malmsteen we were talking about. Edited to add: (I'm trying to show that I'm in the Hear'n'Aid comment by Michael McKean as David St Hubbins...not trying to be sarcastic)
Brooks Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Caprici Di Diablo on the Perpetual Flame CD is awesome!yngwie308is that the new one w/ ripper owens singing? i want to check that out, its supposed to be darker and heavier than his last 20 years of velveeta. love his playing, hate most of his tunes. his major problem is that he's a control freak and cheesy songwriter; i always thought if he got in a real collaberative band w/ guys nearly as talented as he was, it would be killer. i'm drunk.

I think in general his playing is not quite as crisp as it was back in the old days, even with the increased use of effects I still notice. His playing always makes me grin but, I still prefer the older, rawer, and less processed, in your face playing.I like the early instrumental tunes the best, for songs I like “The Seventh Sign” and “Magnum Opus” a lot, “Concerto Suite LIVE With the New Japan Philharmonic DVD” is also killer.
ecnal Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 his playing is still on fire, how many eighties guitarists can you say that about..?yngwie308from the last few concerts I've been to, Angus Young, Tipton/Downing, and Smith/Murray haven't lost any ability I could see.But your point is well taken when you consider Zakk Wylde and EVH.I know some people will disagree . . .
edgar_allan_poe Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 All I know is that when I saw him at NAMM a few years ago, he was amazing. Nuno, Lynch, Zazza, DiMartini were on the same stage and when Yngwie was done Nuno said..."What the hell do we do now? He just played every note you could possible play!" LOL!!!!!The quote of the evening came from Lynch. They were jamming and after the song, Nuno turned to Lynch and said.."George...you gonna play *any* rhythm tonight?"Lynch's response... "I don't do rhythm." ROTFLMAO!!!!from the last few concerts I've been to, Angus Young, Tipton/Downing, and Smith/Murray haven't lost any ability I could see. Those guys were all well before Yngwie and don't do the same things as he does. The poster was talking about the 80's shred guys, the only one that I can think of off the top of my head that is still relevant is Vai. I am sure there are more, but I can't think of any right now.
moparmagic Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 even the "slow" parts are way to fast for me
phoenix Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 his playing is still on fire, how many eighties guitarists can you say that about..?yngwie308Perhaps the two I saw Yngwie get booed off stage opening for in the 80's. Angus and Prince.
Submariner85 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 He's a great player and very fast but most of his stuff seems like showing off.I'm jealous.
bubs_42 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 He's great , but I watched the 3G show on DVD and he was just to much.
yngwie308 Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 You guys have some very different and interesting opinions about Yngwie, not the usual hating BS. Sure he is a self admitted control freak, his songwriting sucks and if he input ed to a band in the conventional sense he would be wildly successful. I respect Angus Young for his track record and sticking to what's not broken , like Yngwie, I just can't listen to..that for too long either . That Yngwie is still relatively well known and successful, seemingly despite the management of his wife, is remarkable. All geat guitarists have some flaw, be it personality or some other issue, ego, ect, it's just not many, even Iron Maiden, AC/DC, would I associate the term maestro with, including Vai.. Sure Yngwie rips off classical music, but that's cool. That's the nature of the music biz though. Overall I have no idea what the future will bring, but it will be at least interesting! yngwie308
