Roli Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Title says it all. I´d like to see pics of Hamer Firebirds. How rare are these guitars? Thanks
cmatthes Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Not a lot of them out there, that's for sure. They were only built for a short period of time.
Hamer_SS_guy Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I have a Firebird, white w/black hardware. It is not my favorite guitar, the neck is kind of big to me, and the missing body contours are hard to get used to. I love the body shape and recently I got into the music of Johnny Winter again (the old stuff). But if Gibson style I prefer the Steve Stevens model. I also have a Gibson RD Artist, its body and neck are far more comfortable to me compared to the FB. I used the FB as my main guitar for a few months, sound and looks are great but playability is not so great to me, rhythm is okay but playing licks above the 12th fret is kind of hard for me.
Mindseyes Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I was told around 200 or less FB's, counting guitars and basses. here's mine........just got finished tracking a song with it and its the best sounding bass ive ever played!!! I sounds so frigen sweet threw just a SansAmp for recording.....love this bass!!!
straightblues Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I just bought this firebird body on Ebay today. I am going to match it up with a Hamer Daytona neck I have sitting around. So it will almost be a Hamer. Any thoughts on a finish color for this flamer?
Feynman Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 There is no better guitar color than orange. Or a Rising Sun.

Do you have any pics of your FB? At the moment I don´t have the money to buy a new guitar, but since you are the "Hamer SS guy" and I do have a few Steve Stevens Models maybe we can work on a trade? If you´re interested, please PM me or send me an email, so we can talk in our native language. Should be easyer for both of us
serial Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Badgerdave-you can do better than that! If no one else will play... Sadly, that one recently flew away from the nest, but I'm now Floyd-free. THIS one is my baby 'Bird:
Roli Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Nice guitars so far! Is the handling/playability on the FBs compareable to a Hamer Standard? Were there any FBs made without a tremolo? Steve, do you know if such a rare (Fire-) bird exists?
Jem Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Nice guitars so far! Is the handling/playability on the FBs compareable to a Hamer Standard? Were there any FBs made without a tremolo? Steve, do you know if such a rare (Fire-) bird exists? They are nothing like a Standard - in fact they're a bitch to play in my opinion.I'm sure i saw a sustain block FB at some point although my mind may be making it up. One things for sure, if they did make one it probably was only one.
serial Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 There is at least one out there. As for playability, that's not so much the problem. They're not as well-balanced as Standards and can be neck heavy. My Gibson is a feather with a huge neck (perfect), but the headstock is so long that it can nose-dive w/o the right strap. Still, I love that thing.
adgc Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 After years of searching for a left handed Firebird finally got an Epiphone.... ... and sold it less than two years later. (The thing just felt kind of "dead". Even the bridge position Seymour mini-humbucker couldn't bring it to life.) Also had a DIY "Thunderbird" for a while. Have since parted out and sold off.

So it will almost be a Hamer. Any thoughts on a finish color for this flamer? not a FB but a color selection for the FireHamer. Mighty Hamer, late 70's Mighty Mite(Wayne Charvel) body mated with a '93 Hamer Daytona neck..... Wow just noticed. One of everything, P90 neck, Strat single coil or listick middle and Humbucker bridge.
Mindseyes Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Wish mine was all black like yours!!! Your is the most bad ass loking bass ever!! Here's mine...
elduave Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 This FB has been largely neglected, but I restrung and set it up last night and it felt good to recall what an *excellent* playing guitar this is. And the pickups? Love 'em.
blackfbiv Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Wish mine was all black like yours!!! Your is the most bad ass loking bass ever!! Indeed!!! I love it... thanks mang!!! Edited to add... I can't remember who made them or if they still do.. but I once toyed with the idea of throwing those black colored bass strings on it as well (not the nylon tapewounds, but the actual colored metal)... I thought it might be too much tho so I never did...
blackfbiv Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 FB bass heaven...Sweet FB Action (Now in Slo-mo)
