Guest JackButler Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 That'd be the one..he'd gotten some really serious offers $$$..but he kept pulling back and raising the ceiling.. got the impression that he either had NO intention of selling/ was just dangling the carrot or wanted some unreal amount for it.
Jeff R Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 My local GC has a used RR1 on the wall. May go by and take a test drive on it today to make sure a Rhoads is still a good fit for me before I bite on one of the gold "first five" guitars 'cause it won't be cheap! My first "V" guitar was a Rhoads and the short treble-side wing spoiled me for playing comfort both sitting and standing. Sitting, you can wedge it in a classical position and it works unbelievably incredible as a player. Part of Randy's reconfig on a traditional V shape perhaps? Standing up, it's just sleeker on the body and more ergometric if that makes sense. For the record, if a "first five" doesn't pan out, I haven't ruled out picking up a non-booteek-y Rhoads and getting Stike to do some goldflake glitter magic on it. Or maybe "Dorothy There's-No-Place-Like-Home Ruby Ass Red Slippers" Big Flake Glitter Red magic
Feynman Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 You've all seen this one, but this was my Jackson. I don't have many guitar sales regrets, but I wish I had held onto this one. Great quality, great Floyd, sleeksex neck, great sounds. It really was a winner. Damn.
guitarzandstuff Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Custom Built for a buddy in the 80's... still pretty minty!
tbonesullivan Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I have to keep curbing my desire to get something "shredder". I have had shredders before, and can never get my head around the double locking tremolos. Heck i have trouble with ANY kind of trem. I know they make hardtail versions, but the USA models are still kinda pricey for my tastes, even used.
shredmeister Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 It's funny: I have read from many top builders that contrary to what many people believe a good Floyd Rose set up correctly stays in tune better than a stop tail piece or other non-floating bridges.Personally with amount of wide vibrato I do I tend to agree.Just about every electric I have has a Floyd - I love 'em and I don't use the whammy bar hardly ever. I just love the bridges.
tommy p Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Here's mine. I really got it for its graphic, but I can't play guitars with trems worth a damn. If anyone wants to take it off my hands, make an offer.
alantig Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I have a hakering for a shredder, and I'm thinking about doing a custom-order Rhoads. I tried one before Christmas just to make sure I could live with the shape, but off the rack, they don't have quite the configuration I want.I may look at the first five thing, but they're doing a replica of Randy's white guitar that's way out of my league - $12k+.I don't shred well enough for that!Alan
RCM78 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 This is my first Jackson. A 2009 PC1 auNatural. Ive had a few Charvel's over the years but nothing as nice as this one...
belikerick Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Got me one of these with a TV Jones TV Tron in the bridge - Love it!
humfree Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I have some experience with Jacksons. Last one is a Custom Shop Reverse Body Style Demon - absolutely one of the most killer guitars I have ever seen. That black one looks like it is suspended in the air.. if that ain't mojo.. hehehe.. nice collection! Had a Dinky (XL I think it was) before I understood Floyds, so I got rid of it because I couldn't get it in tune. Should not have done that.. great guitars!
humfree Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Got me one of these with a TV Jones TV Tron in the bridge - Love it! Been Jonesin' for a Surfcaster ever since I first saw them! I have a catalog from '94-'95 that has some odd shapes - I always liked the Kellys as well.. I have never seen one with a mini humbucker though.. NICE!
diablo175 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 It's funny: I have read from many top builders that contrary to what many people believe a good Floyd Rose set up correctly stays in tune better than a stop tail piece or other non-floating bridges. Personally with amount of wide vibrato I do I tend to agree. Just about every electric I have has a Floyd - I love 'em and I don't use the whammy bar hardly ever. I just love the bridges. Save for my acoustic and an old Peavey bass, every one of my axes has a Floyd or Floyd derivative (Edge, Schaller) Contrary to Shredmeister, I DO use the bar- alot- either for subtle coloring of the pitch or for flat out, extreme dive bombs, wide vibrato, wicked pull ups, trills, and a whole host of wacky and weird effects. I'm not Vai, Stevens or Van Halen but the bar is integral to my style and Jacksons, with the right locking trem, stands pretty much neck and neck with my beloved Hamer Diablo for that style of playing. Here's mine. I really got it for its graphic, but I can't play guitars with trems worth a damn. If anyone wants to take it off my hands, make an offer. If that body was routed and the Floyd set to float, I'd take it in a heartbeat- tree-fiddy? Seriously, I'd snag that save for the flat mount trem.... Freakin' beautiful.
DaveL Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 really cool article on Charvel from the upcoming issue of Guitar World...http://www.charvel.com/pdf/Charvel_GW_Story_low.pdf
pi_hole Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I've had a few Soloists and they were all pretty good, but I found the control layout extremely annoying on all of them. - Austin I have been coveting a Jackson for a long time (two words: Dinky Body), but I'm not comfortable with knobs and switches that are positioned forward of the bridge... and both Jackson and Charvel are big into that.
