bubs_42 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Finally I didn't have to bump this thread myself. We need more guys on board like yourself. Welcome
cmatthes Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Welcome aboard! Great shot of your guitar...and strap too.
Jakeboy Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I need a Phantom A5.What are the big differences between the 80s and 90s phantoms?
bubs_42 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Well the TOM VS Sustainblock, Dimarzio's VS Seymour Duncan's, Thin Narrow Neck VS Medium Neck. Prototype VS Phantom, the A5 definitely a Phantom, the 90's Phantom definitely a Prototype. I had a 90's Phantom Converted to a Sustainblock and the Second one is at Stikes. Cost a shit load of money to have the conversion done and the guitar repainted but I had already bought my share of the 80's Prototypes and could not live with the size of the necks.
dragan Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 that 3 pick up in one ring set up reminds me of the old tom holmse custom gtrs
HSB0531 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 WOW! Is that a refin? Was the sustain block refinished in black?
David B Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 WOW! Is that a refin? Was the sustain block refinished in black? 100% stock.

David B Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Man, that's in near new condition.A perfect time capsule example. It was in the back of a store for over 30 years.
HSB0531 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 If it's not in "The Book" it should have been. What a great find.Like the classic car in the barn stories.
David B Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 If it's not in "The Book" it should have been. What a great find.Like the classic car in the barn stories.I bought it after the book.
HSB0531 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Then it should be in the 2nd. book.Definately.
HSB0531 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 One thing I like about both the 1st. gen. Prototype and Cruise bass, is that they're (IMO) the first departure by Hamer to make a more uniquely-their-own guitar and bass.Sure, they're based loosely on the Strat & Jazz bodywise, but other than that they are a departure. And the Proto's 3-coil in one trim ring idea is pretty unique.
bubs_42 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I seriously need to get more pictures of this one. It may need a trip to Nashville for more work after its sibling arrives. This was a good one. I sold it for one reason or another. I have a nasty purge habit. The one that started the Proto Craze for me. Where are you my dear?
BubbaVO Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 WOW! Is that a refin? Was the sustain block refinished in black? 100% stock. That is too cool.

sonny o'hoolighan Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I decided to join the club- in this case, the Phantom on eBay. Pics when it arrives, and also some much delayed pics for the Talladega thread.
Bass Guy Dave Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I had a 2nd Gen Phantom Custom for a couple of years. Great neck, great tones, great scott! was it heavy.... (I figure some of that was the locking Sperzels.) I eventually wound up trading it for a regular 2nd Gen Phantom (a featherweight,) in the Black/ white pearloid combo. Another killer guitar...
sonny o'hoolighan Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Looks like yours and mine ought to be pretty close to being twins. Mine might be a slightly lighter color...
