WTB: Hamer Cruisebass, 90s 2Tek models

I've got a couple of friends looking for these, and will entertain reasonable offers. Among those looking, solid colors seem to be preferred.

I know our own Mindseyes had a nice one FS here and on the Gear Page last month at a VERY REASONABLE price.

Check with him?

Those are one of the better examples of; 'when you want one you can't find one' basses. They do pop up for sale, just not all that often. Although I think I saw one listed fs on talkbass.com a short time ago.

just 2tek or gotohs ok too?

I'd entertain either, I think. I don't have a lot of experience with the gotohs, but I've played lots of 2teks.

My Gotoh equipped Cruise is awesome. Plays incredibly well, is well under 9 lbs (some of the 2TEKS appear to be boat anchors) and Cary (a real bassist) says he has both and likes the Gotohs. I think you'll do right with either, but I keep hearing that the 2Tek versions are the shizzle.

I like the Gotoh version also, but the 2TEK just has a different "ring" to it and there is a noticeable vibration/sustain in those that I prefer.

Of course, "Cary" is a "real bassist", so...:lol:

I honestly don't think you'd go wrong with either: USA Custom Shop quality for the price of an import Fender.

The best 2Tek Cruise Hamer ever made with be at the Chicago jam on Saturday. It's not for sale, I'm just sayin'.

Chris; you are correct that the best 2tek Cruise ever made is not for sale, but it will not be in Chicago anytime soon. I just checked and it's still in it's case in my office.

2-Tek, EMGs with split shaft bass/treble tone control, Mary Kay blonde .... the only way to fly! You have excellent taste in basses, sir.

I wanna put my stink on that!

You too! Kim may still have some pickguards left for those if anyone is looking for one. This came with tortoise, but I thought the mop might be cool and it is.

I bought this one new, a long time ago. The hang tag stated that it was a Deluxe, and that list was either $1595 or $1695, - I'm not sure if either is true, but the shop had been a real Hamer dealer for years at that time.

It's just a hair under 10 pounds, not bad at all for a real 5 string.

I swapped my tortoise guard to somebody for a white one, but I've since decided to just leave it off entirely:

I've always preferred no pickguard to pickguards. I wish they would have offered it plain.

A Gotoh Cruise 4 I used to own, I should have kept this one.

I also had an '05 or so Cruise 4 2tek, 'burst' with the vintage Duncans, I had bought that new, but sold it when I bought the Cruise 5. Just about a year ago I just missed buying that first one back again, it was on Craigs for $300 or so, and I just wasn't quick enough. From emailing the seller, he bought it at just about the same time, from the same shop I had mine on consignment at, - I almost forgot about that story. I can't find any pics of that one.

I can't see changing the pickguard on this one:

I wouldn't either. It works on yours. The shape of the pickguard is what I dislike most about the Cruises, and a dark color against a light color (or vice versa) only draws more attention to it.

If anything I'd just remove it for that Jaco look.

I think they look better without a guard too.

Never had one either. Oversized headstock, this is one of two made for Jeff Ament. He got one, there's this one and his spec-neck at the factory. Trades?

I can't argue with that. I like both in this thread with no pickguard. Makes them look more modern. My main Fender Jazz is a '92 Plus which has an ash body and no pickguard.

MCChris, I mailed you the white guard awhile back (Munster?), I already had a tort.

Serial, I'll always dream about the glitter Cruise! My Fave! What color represents it best in those pics? And what pups are in it? The neck has smaller magnets.
