Tech21 Amp users

backinit

Question

Posted

I recently picked up a broken TM30 for cheap and luckily it was an easy and cheap repair.

I am intrigued with the sounds that I can get out of this little box. It might be loud enough to practice with in my current classic/alternative band as we are not real loud, but for the most part I see this as a bedroom amp unless it is paired with a power engine or routed to a mixer.

How are these with pedals? Is there anything that you have learned from Tech21 amps that might be helpful to a new user?

They're great with pedals, children, and small animals.

I learned a lot from my TECH-21, including how to love again.

Agreed! Those are fantastic amps, they sound great DI'd out to the pa for larger shows as well. They LOVE pedals and have a fantastic effects loop for delays and chorus's. Indespensible, and they have a great gigbag for packing everything up. It's a great grab-n-go little amp

I got a Power Engine 60 and it's a totally dependable piece of gear. Never tried the TM30 though.

I had the TM60 - IMHO, the best solid state amp made and in many ways better than most tube amps. Unlike many SS amps, the signal path is completely analog. The tone was in no way sterile or lacking. The built-in SansAmp direct out absolutely rules and for what I was using the amp at the time it was head and shoulders the best solution available.

I could never find a distortion or OD pedal I liked better than the gain channel in my Trademark 60, I did really like the gain channel on that amp. I had an aftermarket upgrade speaker from BCRGreg, and I think that made the amp noticeably better.

The only amp I've bought twice. Talked my guitar player into ditching his Marshall for one and he made me buy another one (from SirD-awesome!).

I have played this twice at practice. I find it a little boxy sounding, but volume wise it's loud enough in our practice space. It's really nice to carry a 14 lb amp in one hand. Hmmmm... power engine.

Exceptional amps. I gigged with a Trademark 60 for two years without any problems. I drove mine with a programmed Boss ME-70 so I'd assume it takes pedals great. The onboard SansAmp is every soundman's dream - perfect DI every time. Another noteworthy point is durability. Mine got dropped by UPS so hard when I got it the wood box split along the top joint. Amp itself worked perfect and me and Cajun Boy fixed the box will wood glue and clamps. I also got trapped in a freak rain storm at an outdoor gig with mine and my bandmates insisted on ending the song, so I played for another two minutes while the amp got SOAKED (I was so thankful I had a wireless). Powered it down, let it dry out overnight and it fired up like a charm with no problems. Lightweight and portable, indestructable, sounds good, I could go on and on. If I was still gigging I'd probably still have mine.

Now I'm GAS-ing for a TM-60 thanks to you guys.

BTW, my gigging rig is just a treble booster, a noise gate, a Pignose preamp and a Power Engine 60. I've always found quite funny I sound way better with that rig than lotta guys who arrive with 100w Marshall stacks, Mesa-Boogies, Peavey 5150's and such. For small venues, which is the only thing I (and they) do, carrying around those big cannons is like using atomic bombs to kill flies!

Just for grins today I plugged the TM30 into my 112 fender cabinet that I installed a spendy speaker into.

Every thing I once believed about tube amps has changed a little. If you have a closed back cabinet and a TM 30 (or TM 60) give it a try.

I also have a TM-60 and they probably are one of the best SS amp. Enough power to gig but it can also be used at home, reliable and fantastic sound.

And it takes pedals very well, and don't forget the switchable reverb and boost, a real keeper, for sure.

Mmm.... You guys are causing me some serious GAS.

About 7 or 8years ago, I was playing the T60 on a sunday morning, -kinda loud band for about 200 seats, and a 2nd guitar player that the bandleader knew showed up, with a nice all tube half stack (mesa iirc). I had my T60 on an amp stand, pointed so that it was my guitar monitor, di to the house. The half-stack guy complained the whole time that he couldn't hear himself. I had no sympathy for him.

My SSII with bbq bucker at the bridge was my favorite guitar with that amp, now I want it back again too! I could haul my whole rig in one trip.
