I missed the auction because I had to work and the winner can't freaking pay. You would think I would be happy but I am pissed. That guy is a dick. I hope it all work out for your benefit. If the guy bid on your auction he is subject to the terms, no payment on time means no guitar.

All a half full glass means is that some jack ass bumped into when you were walking away from the bar to go back to your table.....

I have been away, so didn't see the thread. That guitar kicks all kind of ass. I originally bought it on ebay from Japan with the intention of having it possibly refinished. It came to me with no case and strings that were about 10 years old. I cleaned up the fretboard a little, restrung it and played it that night at a gig. There was no reason to do anything to it, the scratches and pink paint just added to it's coolness. The only reason I sold it was I was able to talk murkat out of his 78 Black B&C Greco, which I still have and will not part with. I also have an 81 Greco Explorer flame sunburst with dots. These old Grecos are basically non-export Ibanez Destroyers, they were made at the same factory side by side with them.

OH GODDAMN!!! You have ANOTHER EX800HB? That's insanely awesome and that burst...what particular star's Hamer is that a copy of?

Hmmmm....

Not to split hairs here but not too sure about the Greco being the "same" as an Ibanez Destroyer, the Ibanez DestroyerI had was routed from the front under a pickguard (like later Gibsons) not from the rear as the Greco must be.

I could be wrong though, usually I am.

Still fine guitars though and if you ever want to part with the Black one let me know.

Fair enough, Rich. I'm not as familiar with Ibanez's entire line and don't know if they made a non-pick guard explorer. But the Greco "korina" explorer (actually Senn Ash) is almost identical to the Ibanez, including the pickguard, except for the pickups. My 78, along with my 76 V both have multi piece bodies like the Ibanez versions. Brandon's 82 and my 81 have more solid bodies. They're still 2 piece, but, as far as I can tell, the 2nd piece is just the tip of the big horn.

The information about these early Grecos is limited and sketchy, most of what I said above is just informed conjecture. But who knows, I could be completely wrong about the whole thing.

Alas, I don't think I'll ever get rid of any of my Grecos. In fact, I'd love to find a korina Greco to complete the set. All 3 are incredibly rare and difficult to find, and I don't spend much time looking anymore.

If it was indeed modeled after a Hamer, there's only one it could be with that control layout.

Good spot Cynic with that control layout it must be meant to be a straight copy of Ricks 0001.

Did they market it as such ?

Curry dude, sorry not meaning to be any kind of smart ass with regard to minute details, it seems no one really has any idea what went on it those Japanese factories in the late 70's. Ibanez, Antoria, Greco and more were all stable mates so anything could and probably did happen. My Ibanez was a multi piece ash body with the routing for the 3 way switch on the front of the guitar, I can remember that much for sure.

Actually, I got to see #0000 (not #0001) in the flesh, uh, wood, last weekend. Took a lot of great pics, so will post something here later from home.

That IS the guitar the Greco was modeled after. They made a few "Rick Nielsen" models, both official and semi-official back then.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.............hhhhhhhhh................hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........

I see.

Interesting that they made it identical to the original with the correct but incorrect control layout, makes you wonder why the company that made the guitar it is based on never had the sense to make any attempt to re-issue it or make any tribute models.

I guess thats why they're no longer in business.

Yeah...um, no.

#0000 was different than the others (well there was one more like it) for a reason. That'll be in the book too...!

Grecos and Ibanez were not built in the same factory as I understand it. They shared things, but weren't the same.

My understanding is a little different-handshake deal between many Japanese guitar distributors for market locations, hence Greco's dominance in Japan and Ibanez's in the US, but by and large, most of their golden age stuff was put together in the Fujigen plant on the same lines, as evidenced by sn layout.
