LucSulla Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 And the second of my two Hamers showed up today. I am done for awhile until I get everything paid off. After that, I am thinking either a Standard, P-90 Special, or Monaco Elite needs to join my developing harem.
tomteriffic Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Good find! Congrats! Was the guitar originally made for humbuckers? The majority of those from that era were P-90's
LucSulla Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Yep, stock pups. I was a little worried that it wouldn't sound much different from my studio, but lacking the maple cap really does make for a darker sound. Cleans aren't quit as shimmering as the studio, but it has more balls in drop tunings.
Hamersaur Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Very Nice. Congrats. Think the gold hardware really compliments the guitar. For a 94 it looks to be in great shape. Enjoy.
hamerhead Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Nice. There's something about the Cherry/Gold combination that I really like.
Toadroller Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 HNSD! Specials are just that. I plugged in my TV Yellow, who I call "Puddy," in tribute. Just rock and roll machines, aren't they?
sixesandsevens Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 That's great! I'm glad you're digging it. How's it feel compared to the studio?
LucSulla Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 Thanks everyone! The neck is a little fatter compared to the studio, and it is obviously a little lighter. Otherwise, quite similar. I can't wait to use them for double tracking some rhythm stuff. I think they will sounds awesome together.

LucSulla Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 I can answer a little better after spending a few hours putting them through their paces. The both do everything I like in a mahogany bodied humbucking guitar well. If I had to pick though, I like the special better for rhythm. It's a little chunkier to me. The studio is just a lead machine. The resonance makes sustain and controlled feedback effortless. It almost feels like cheating. I also like cleans on it just a little bit better. However, a lot of that is splitting hairs. They are both fun to play for just about anything.
