Which car movie is this? Similar to Vanishing point....?

I saw this cool flick on the tv way over ten years ago, but I forgot what it was called. Can't remember the actors either.

This I remember:

Late 60's or early 70's movie. Two guys drives around in a muscle car with a hot rodded engine, a Pontiac or similar. They drive from small town to small town and compete in street races. I think they were earning money on waging. They get in to a little trouble here and there. There was probably a girl involved (as always...).

At the end of the movie they compete in a real turnament on a race track. I think they win. Maybe someone got hurt, can't remember.

This was a cool movie, with a vibe similar to Vanishing Point. Is there any one old enough to remember what film I am talking about...?

I'd like to see it again.

I have to confess, I didn't remember the name either, but I knew how to find it.

Searched for "movie similar to Vanishing point" and voila!

Scotch and potato chips?

Where did they grow you?

;)

Incidentally, the '55 Chevy in 'Blacktop', was the same car driven by Harrison Ford in 'American Graffiti', after it had been painted black, and made to look more like what was being driven by a hot rodder in '62, than in '71. Leave it to a 'gearhead' to know something like that. The movie was reviewed in the May, '71 issue of Hot Rod magazine, as I recall.

Not a good match? I'm drinking Jack Daniels and cocking salmon with oranges and avocado right now, better? :P

So you are "cocking" salmon? That sounds mighty kinky.

Yeah, sorry. That was private information, not really meant to be shared here.... Been watching to many episodes of that kinky series Borgia on HBO.

The Borgias! Cool series. Did you catch the salmon yourself? We have none here in FL but I like it on the grill with mango, cilantro and tomatillos (not tomatoes although that's good as well) and a little bit of habanro extract.

I'll have to check out the movie. I don't believe I've seen it.

I re-watched Vanishing Point a couple years ago, and thought it was still kind of cool. It made a big impression on me back in the 70's when I originally saw it on late night television. Funny thing about the version on NETFLIX: it had a lot more nudity than the version I saw way-back-when.

Enjoy your salmon, and the movie!

This is all reminding me of the movie Duel from around the same time. A great suspenseful car movie.
