polara Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Birthday's coming up and I still miss my old VAC25.Back story: I built a new website for Rob and we needed an amp to photograph. We agreed on specs and he agreed, very generously, to make the photo-model amp part of the payment for the site.So I was the original owner of the red 2-10 you'll still see on the site. It sounded fantastic. But I was playing bass in this band, and had been for two years, and my guitarist immediately abandoned his Mesa Maverick to play the VAC. It kicked the Mesa's butt.MY VAC.Being an independent businessman I had no spare money so I finally got tired of the situation and traded the Valvetech away to, I think, Cajunboy for a B12L. Felt bad about it, but I'd sort of just given the amp to my guitarist and had nothing to show for it.I miss it.Anyone selling a VAC25, or maybe even a Hayseed? In a perfect world that red one with the 2 10s is still floating around the HFC...Thanks.
RobB Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Anyone selling a VAC25, or maybe even a Hayseed? In a perfect world that red one with the 2 10s is still floating around the HFC..PMed you, polara!
polara Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 And I believe I will soon be back in the Valvetech camp. Thanks! Woohoo!
MCChris Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Welcome back! Rob's suggesting another circuit tweak for mine. Probably should leave well enough alone, but I can't resist the possibility of it sounding even better.
MCChris Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 That's probably the most recent one. Last time I had mine tweaked was sometime pre-2010.
polara Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 I'll be the happy owner of RobB's VAC25. It's nearly a twin of mine: red, 2-10, FX loop and reverb. I kept hearing that sound in my head and while I do love my Genz Benz Black Pearl and the AC15, the Valvetech does the Tweed thing and the gain, Bluesbreaker thing like no one's business. So I'll be selling either the BP or the Vox soon.
RobB Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I'll be the happy owner of RobB's VAC25. It's nearly a twin of mine: red, 2-10, FX loop and reverb. Tadaaaaaaaa...! This gives me a great reason to get a Hayseed30 head. Clank, squish, compress, drive, repeat...
stonge Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Thassa nice. Reminds me, I've got Nightwolf's Hayseed (s/n 001) that needs to go for an update. Gotta ship that off one of these days...
pasqual12 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Hi. I believe I owned the original red VAC for a while. I had two valvetech s and unfortunately decided to sell the red combo. It went to a local guy here in the Chicago area. If you are interested in pursuing that amp I can send along the buyers info.

Last thing anyone needs is some lowballing HFC ninny stalking him about an amp he doesn't necessarily want to sell anyway.
LordsoftheJungle Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 That sure looks like the VAC25 I had many moons ago, one of the early ones. Gotta love them Valvetechs!
polara Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 If it has the faucet with lightning bolt logo, it was after 2004, I think. I also rendered that logo idea Rob had: that faucet-electricity-retro 40s industrial Tom Swift look. I can't recall what he had before. I'd have to go through some really old files to find the old logo and new but I think it was just text before.I'm kind of puzzled as to why these amps are not the darlings of the Gear Page crowd. Too affordable, maybe. I honestly have never played anything with such a wide range of sounds, literally from a Fender Blackface clean to chug-chug Mesa gain by turning a couple knobs. I wish I understood better how amps work, 'cos it's really unlike the usual "Based on a Bassman, Based on an AC30, Based on a JCM800" things out there. I mean there are lots of great amps out there. The Aiken Tomcat I played a few times was stellar, and you can't beat a Deluxe Reverb for lots of things, or a Princeton Reverb, an AC30, a Bluesbreaker. The VAC25 or 22 is just unique.
MCChris Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I'm kind of puzzled as to why these amps are not the darlings of the Gear Page crowd. Too affordable, maybe.Could also be the lack of a paid cult-of-personality shill like Matte Henderson.
bubs_42 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Had a Vac25 Combo and it was very Tweedy and got cooking if you could open it up. I could not get it to the Cooking Point and keep my hearing. Now that being said the 4321 Club has one that I got cooking with a Vanguard I should have purchased a head and 1x12 closed back cab. Great Amps!
MCChris Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Now that being said the 4321 Club has one that I got cooking with a Vanguard That used to be mine. 7th one ever built. I hope Bruce still gives me dibs if he ever decides to part with it. Nothing makes me happier than plugging into that amp and having Robbie come up to me mid-song to yell in my ear "IT'S TOO HOT!"
bubs_42 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 LOL, Robbie needs to put his big boy panties on. I was liking it then Ray stepped on that EQ to boost it and I almost blew a nut. You would have never thought I was playing with one twelve inch speaker.
MCChris Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 LOL, Robbie needs to put his big boy panties on. I always joke to Robbie that I'll make a man out of him yet. Seems there's still some work left to do! That Z cab is a great match for the VAC, most importantly from a visual standpoint.
robbie Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I think I must have meant that your solo was too hot... no one EVER turns up the amplifiers too loud at the 4321.
robbie Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 by the way, maybe if you came up more often my progress toward manhood would be progressing better...
MCChris Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 by the way, maybe if you came up more often my progress toward manhood would be progressing better... Tell me about it. Wish I could make it this weekend. Love the Minneapolis crew!
