What is the Hamer of Compact Discs?

Question

So I've started burning music CDs lately. Specifically CD-R.

Bought a batch of Verbatim CDs that look like vinyl LPs, called "digital vinyl". They're crap. Maybe I just got a bad batch but after only 10-15 plays, some have data corruption/skipping/no music, just a Max Headroom kind of effect. Store bought CDs play just fine, so I don't think it's my deck.

I don't need a Hamer c/o, just a good value for my money.

Suggestions, please. And thank you!

Could be your hardware.

More specifically, the optical drive you are "burning" disks with. They are cheap, maybe you need a new one?

i've had poor luck w/verbatim record lookin cds as well , usually buy what ever is on sale at staples (sony , taiyo yuden , even memorex ) in 100 pack . I record with mac & pc & alessis masterlink . not many issues ,other than they're never as loud as pressed cds.

I use my Apple iMac. No problems during the burn. The internal drive used is an OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A .

I usually buy a bulk stack by Sony or Maxell at Costco or Sam's Club and they've always been very reliable--in car players, home CD players, portable CD players. I also rip to iTunes and burn to CD-R. I will keep my eye out for Taiyo Yuden to see if I notice a difference.

Taiyo Yuden here, as well. I've burned somewhere around 10k discs, and i run a verify on each one when they burn. (except for the scratch personal shtuff...) I've only had 3 bad, and they were from the same box, so it was likely a bad run. I've never had any come back to me, but that doesn't mean they never failed, just that they never came back to me. :) I've had *far* more discs hit the trash can due to a bad print than a bad burn. (not to make this about me, 'cause it's not, but i pulled the trigger and upgraded to a better CD printer about a year ago, then the business dried up - i haven't done a run since then...)

I think JVC bought TY a while back. The last bulk order i placed were in a JVC box, but the discs looked the same.

Tried Verbatim once a long time ago, and they were crap back then. I'd hope they'd be better by now...

I go for green reflecting blanks. They play in almost any player.

The Hamer of Compact Disks? It's the new ZZ Top Box Set. It starts with 3 guys working in a basement and ends with them selling out.

Thank you.

Try the veal.

Tip your bartenders.

Good night.

It sounds to me like Taiyo Yuden is a good candidate for Hamer of CD-R's:

  • It performs better and more consistently than the competition.
  • It's an obscure brand unfamiliar to all but the most dedicated aficionados.
  • It's impossible to find a local dealer
  • It's probably mispronounced more often than not.
  • It has no endorsements from famous computer geeks and rippers.

... The only thing left is to go out of business.

I buy Taiyo Yuden in bulk from Neato. Lately they've been saying that they'll be JVC branded but that they're the same stuff. Zero failures in a recent production run of 200 and zero failures (that I know of) in numerous ones, data and audio, over the years.

Another vote for Taiyo Yuden, from my research and personal experience the best there is.

So I've been using the Taiyo Yuden discs for a while now, and like them a lot! No failures in the burning, and they're lasting longer than some of the Verbatims I've used.

Thanks to all for letting me know of a good brand I'd probably never heard of otherwise.
