albacore Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 From 1978....The 230th....A loverly one definitely....to stay in England only ?Says posting only to UK. I could help you out if needed.
polara Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I'm headed to the UK in a couple weeks. That un's gonna go for a good bit of money though.
RichRS6 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Very nice.It will be staying here if I have anything to do with it..
Andrew Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Take care!I can see a neck break and the serial number is not the Hamer printed one, looks stamped. Look at the headstock and you can see the repair. Imagine what a perfect one would be worth and half it.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I'm headed to the UK in a couple weeks. That un's gonna go for a good bit of money though.Don't bank on it! It's the UK & I've sold good USA Hamer's for peanuts over here. Then again, I've also had bargains...

Look at the headstock and you can see the repair. Imagine what a perfect one would be worth and half it.Yeah, sure looks like a massive break. Could be a weird reflection but unlikely. Serial number size and spacing looks about right but crap photography does not help this guitar, as it does looks stamped though COULD be the lacquer shrank slightly around the numbers. Seems weird to re-stamp a serial number even after a repair.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 What is 450£ in real money (€?)£450 is around 500 Euro. We don't have the Euro in England. It's also around $675...

The seller isn't saying much either which is curious if they have any idea how potentially desirable it is.
Bennyboy-UK Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I'd love a 78 Hamer of some sort one day.

stratacus Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Additional pics of the headstock are being posted by the seller.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Additional pics of the headstock are being posted by the seller.Yeah, I messaged him saying he should post more + better pics...
crunchee Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 What is 450£ in real money (€?) L 450 IS real money. I spent a few years in the UK, so I can kinda gauge how much stuff should be in UK Pounds value-wise, even now. Maybe it's because I'm also used to DMs from years ago, but budgeting with Euros is freakin' expensive! Current price is UK L 650, which is roughly US $1050-1100, depending on how much the banks rip you off for the currency conversion.

Yes, from the uk I get a bit jealous looking at what Hamers are going for in the US. Looking at it more as a buyer than a seller at this point. It doesn't seem to be far off a pound for a dollar, which seems like quite a gap Matt
Montelovesco Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 No offense meant. It is just that I am really used to the €\$ conversation rate, and that the £ is kind of far away...
Brentrocks Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 you can see the headstock repair on the front of the headstock too
RichRS6 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 It looks like it could have been the cameras flash. The seller seems unaware of any breaks and he says he's had it from new although that would mean it sat around for 4 years.Still waiting for better pics before I get too excited..
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 He never said anything about a break in his message to me. Then again, he said he'd post better pics & a copy of the receipt but now he's had bids, he'll struggle with that (unless he adds to it)...
Andrew Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Still carefully avoiding the photo of the critical region for the neck break.Note the replaced TRC with 'Standard' on it. TRCs crack often in a neck break.I don't like the look of the serial number, either.
RichRS6 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 The extra pic is hardly conclusive.Seems the guy is not too keen on showing the potentially damaged area which is a bit dim.Anyone buying it would be entitled to send it back and get a refund as it's a non disclosed issue with the item. I've emailed but had no positive response to my questions about a possible neck break.
crunchee Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Sounds/looks like the seller is counting on the impulse buy, rather than clear photos to sell the guitar.
RichRS6 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I had a reply and he seems pretty genuine about not knowing about the damage (says its been under the bed for 30 Years !) but I pointed out it would mean a purchaser could return it if he had not disclosed any significant facts.
