Tres Aardvarks Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 My amp almost never gets turned on these days (as I usually play while the kids are asleep or while I'm hanging out with them). I was walking around playing my B12M, and enjoying how loud it is acoustically(compared to my other basses). I've regularly thought about pulling the octave strings off so I could play her more (as a 4), so the alternate question came up: I wonder if Hamer made many other 4s that are semi-hollow, or chambered, or hollow...anyone?

I love this ^^^^^^^^To add: I always found both my Standard 12 Bass and my Standard 4 to be much louder than any of my Fender basses. Unplugged acoustically they are louder even though they aren't chambered, semi-hollow, or hollow. They sustain longer too. So, I would bet that a B4 would be even louder.
Tres Aardvarks Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 I also have an Impact and it's nowhere near as loud acoustically (even accounting for the extra strings on the 12). I figure the semi-hollow has to have something to do with it My old fretless is so quiet I can't hear it over the kids
cmatthes Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 It's possible that a few exist, but there simply aren't that many B-4s out there. I really don't know why, because mine is one of the greatest basses I've ever owned. I guess because it's always been a custom order only, you rarely see them.Jack Blades ordered a white bass based off of the Newport platform, but most of the solid body B-4s I've seen were in his hands at one point or another.
Tres Aardvarks Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Was that the Nighthawk (or whatever Jol called it)? The more I play my 12, the more I'd like to have a 4 in that shape.
marcnorth Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I have one, I'll have to dig it out and take a pic or two.
marcnorth Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Tornados and storms are slamming us in Indianapolis today so I couldn't get any sunshine to take better pics. Anyway here's some pretty crappy indoor pics. I'll take some better ones when we get some sunshine.

Someone else gets the credit for this one. I bought it from the original owner.
anotherfreak Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I do miss that one every now and then, but I'm sure it is in MUCH MORE capable hands
