coolfeel Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Richmond Va area - not a bad little area. Will you be working with guitars there?
diablo175 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Drive thru that county every time I go to Myrtle Beach SC and/or Z-Hills FL. The next time I drive thru there on the way to either of those places, I'll stop by to see coolfeel- I owe him a couple of rounds of some good bourbon.
aknapp Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I used to live in Glen Allen (northwest of Richmond).Lots of interesting things to see in Central VA:- Poe Museum in downtown Richmond- Petersburg National Battlefield- Charlottesville is an hour away - don't take the interstate- Colonial Williamsburg is 45 min. away- Busch Gardens - go in October for the Halloween festivities- Virginia Beach/Newport News is about 90 minutes away on a good day- NASCAR fan? Richmond International Raceway is on the other side of town- Sports Car fan? Virginia International Raceway is just outside Danville - about 2 hours away.- Short Pump Field Day of the Past, if you like old farm equipment (cooler than it might sound).- Innsbruck After Hours is an outdoor music venue in Innsbruck Office Park - Wed. or Thur. night concertsSomeone else will need to clue you in about the drugs and hookers!
cmatthes Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I dig the Richmond area. I'm really struggling with not taking a job with my company there right now, but I'm just not mobile right now. If I had known Jackass was moving there earlier...
tommy p Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Welcome to the neighborhood! I live in Midlothian, VA which is in Chesterfield County 15 minutes away from Chesterfield the town and have lived around Richmond since 1987. Al hit a lot of the highlights but if there's anything else you want to know when you get here or before, just PM me.The house we've been building should be completed within a couple of months so I will be moving to the Eastern edge of Goochland County. The Short Pump Field Day of the Past Al mentioned will be walking distance from my house.
BadgerDave Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Petersburg is just down the road from Chesterfield. The whole area is one big Civil War historical site. I lived in Chesterfield when I was going to school at the University of Richmond. At that time, the schools were the best in the area. That was in 1993-96. Don't know if it's changed.I loved the Richmond area and would move back in a heartbeat. Great weather, history, decent airport, close to DC, Charlotte, South Carolina beaches, and relatively inexpensive.
Tres Aardvarks Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 And you can hang with Lindy Fralin!Jeez I need to start hanging with some of the local guys, I had no idea Fralin was out here.I'm 90 minutes west of Chesterfield, up against the Blue Ridge Mountains in Crozet. Need to drag my sorry butt down to Richmond!!
tommy p Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I don't think he's still playing, but Lindy and his brother had a band here for years. A friend of mine works for him now winding those oh-so-famous pickups. I got an awesome humbucker from him a few years back for next to nothing because my repair guy knows him really well.To add to the touristy things Al already mentioned, there's also the Metro Richmond Zoo. That's in Chesterfield County probably less than 30 minutes from Chesterfield. You will become very familiar with Rt. 288. It's a bypass on the Western side of Richmond that makes it super-easy to get somewhere fast; essential for driving to Charlottesville.
Jackass Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 I hope to be doing some setups and minor repairs on the side. Hopefully playing out. I'd like to find some people to play my original instrumentals. Also, I'd like to play out my solo acoustic set. Everybody up here my age either wants to be in a blues band or a cover band. Looking forward to getting tickets to Richmond Nascar for Sept 6th. Just keeping everything mellow will be awesome. You can't believe how stressed out this area is.Thanks!Bm
cmatthes Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Todd - Let me know if you ever want to come up to DC and grab a Nats game with me sometime!
Jackass Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 Todd - Let me know if you ever want to come up to DC and grab a Nats game with me sometime! My son (16) and I would love to go. We would even root for them! I don't do the foam finger though. Hope to go to Sept's Richmond races also. We have to make it to our new home safely first. I picture myself rolling the U-Haul with the car on the back. Oops. Bm

Just don't try and take it off any jumps
