diablo175 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 My friend and co-guitarist in my band decided recently to try his hand at building guitars. He's got extensive background with woodworking and construction. Dropped a bundle on all new wood working tools and machines and some choice wood and went about building himself a f*cking cool LP but with some variations. I've been contracted to provide him with a logo so, I'm somewhat vested in this project as well. Anyway, the build blog he created is a cool sequential view of the process. Currently, he's waiting for the clear to cure and then it's wet sand, buff and polish, then re-install hardware. Here's the blog: http://www.addictguitars.com/guitars/00001/addict00001.html
RobB Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 This is so cool. I really enjoyed reading the blog!
KofSeattle Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Very Cool. It would be awesome to have the tools and talent to build your own axe!
cmatthes Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 That kicks ASS!!!Great work, and super-cool blog. (We all love that shit here!)
it's me HHB Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Yeah much respect to the guys building from scratch
DBraz Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Awesome read Jim.Whenever I read blogs like this I keep thinking - "Build your own guitar David!" But then I look at the wood I bought years ago and think "maybe next year".
Sugartune Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 That is quite impressive. Looks amazing. It's gotta be a whole new level of cool to play a guitar you built entirely on your own. It's cool enough with partscasters, but this is next level.Looking forward to seeing the final product. Thanks for sharing!

And yeah, playing a guitar that you built from scratch has gotta be a rush. I used to get jazzed playing guitars that I had either modded and/or painted myself. But this? This is off-the-charts cool.
cmatthes Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 A through neck LP style v. a set neck is interesting. Any thoughts/comments on your impressions between the two, or haven't you had the chance to A:B then yet?
coolfeel Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 That is all kinds of cool - thanks for sharing!
diablo175 Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 So, having finished building his first Addict LP, he moved onto this: his own design he has yet to name (or finish) . Impressive maple top and from what I have seen personally, real solid workmanship. I'm just a little bit envious.

I have not had a chance to A/B it. He's said that compared to his Gibby LP Standard, his Addict 0001 had a lot more sustain and easier upper fret access. A lot of that sustain can likely be attributed to the stability of the neck as he has it reinforced with graphite rods if I'm not mistaken.
cmatthes Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Very cool - I really enjoyed checking that out and am looking forward to more stuff from your friend!
