sixesandsevens Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I'm in the market for one of these things - a battery powered boom box sort of thing that I can connect to my phone/iPad/whatever via Bluetooth. Any recommendations?
mathman Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I have three different ones I use for different times. I have a Samson Expedition Express that I use for jams and outside in my yard when I need good volume. Strong bluetooth signal and can do a lot more besides. Not small and not real cheap. $200.00 http://www.amazon.com/Samson-Expedition-Express-Rechargeable-Bluetooth/dp/B00DJL8V9E I have an Auvio Speaker from Radioshack. May not be able to get them anymore but it has good sound, volume and is small. Model: 4000375 Catalog #: 4000375 AUVIO BLUETOOTH PORTABLE SPEAKER My wife uses this for listening to book tapes and internet radio around the house. I also really like the Zagg Origin Works like two speakers in one. The small portable speakers docks in the bigger speaker and charges. You can use bluetooth in the small speaker as a portable speaker and then the bluetooth signal is transfered to the larger speaker when docked. You can also have a direct connection to the big speaker that can work independently from the portable speaker. Has really good sound and volume. I found it for $99 but it retails higher. The Zagg Samson.
JohnnyB Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Given AudioEngine's reputation for compact self-powered speakers, I'd look into their B2 Wireless Bluetooth Music Speaker. It's smaller than the pic would imply--4.25"h x 12.25"w.
JimiH Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Only one for me is the iLOUD, great for using with IOS and you can also plug your guitar in as it has iRIG built in.http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/iloud/Geoff
Bennyboy-UK Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I went for a Bose Soundlink mini. I was astounded how loud and clear the thing is. For something so small it's outrageous. You adjust the amount of bass by varying how close to the wall behind it you place it. Must be some kind of reflex arrangement or something. Not cheap, but very recommended by me.I went on several recommendations from friends, and also Which magazines best buy.
Toadroller Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I have the pleasure of working with Bose on a B2B basis. They're very proud of their sound links. But then again, they're proud of everything they out on the market.
Toadroller Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I don't know if you're looking for a speaker, but you can buy Bluetooth adapters and hook them up to your stereo.
unfun75 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 JBL makes good ones. I've read good things about the Cambridge SoundWorks OontZ, too. Both brands are relatively inexpensive.
mathman Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 A couple of good deals on woot today.harmon kardenhttp://sellout.woot.com/offers/harman-kardon-esquire-bluetooth-nfc-speaker-system-7?utm_source=Daily+Digest&utm_campaign=e0316eed93-Daily+Digest+-+20150413+-+Tools.Woot&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c5ca76da11-e0316eed93-301685253#trackedjawbonehttp://www.woot.com/plus/jawbone-big-jambox-bluetooth-speakers-6?utm_source=Daily+Digest&utm_campaign=bf3ccc3bd5-Daily+Digest+-+20150413+-+Woot&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c5ca76da11-bf3ccc3bd5-280353542
gorch Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I don't know if you're looking for a speaker, but you can buy Bluetooth adapters and hook them up to your stereo.Done that. And also have one of the JBL iDockings in the house.
Armitage Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I bought 6, and gave three away to family... I kept three very different units. For size, I have an Ultimate Ears MINI BOOM. It's not only very small it sounds great. You can actually get two and an App will run them in true stereo. People stare at it when they hear it... they think something is hidden somewhere. A little bigger is my JBL Charge. A little smaller then a beer can, rugged with loads of power and clarity. I use this one for watching movies a lot. Voices are very clear at all volumes. A lot of small speakers try to give you an exaggerated high end and low end to make you think it's got it all... but they lose out the mids and you can't figure out what people are saying. Never shrill or boomy. Next is my Sony SRSBTX300. I use this for music or for movies on my tablet that I really should have watched on my big screen. Kind'a big but worth it for the rock'n fidelity, and doesn't fart out like most small speakers that try to actually get low. Great outside.

I use it more than she does now.
jettster Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 If you're looking for something on the higher end never mind. If you are looking for something that's cheap, really portable, sounds decent and runs forever on a single charge. http://www.amazon.com/SimplyVibe-Wireless-Bluetooth-Rechargeable-Speakerphone/dp/B00B544U24I've had one for close to two years and bet it's only been charged 4-5 times, it's ridiculous how long it holds a charge, extremely small and portable.
