For those who play outdoor gigs - advice?

My ancient power pop band is performing at the World's Biggest Bratfest on Memorial Day Weekend. We are one of many bands who re-unite for this event and play a set on a large outdoor stage.

We've done this for the past 3 years and the back line has always been the same. I choose a 100 watt Marshall half stack that's dialed in to be moderately clean. I'll be using a small pedal board with my Menatone Fish Factory for OD and leads.

We have 10 minutes between bands, so it's a rush to get onstage, plug in and go. Last year, for the first time, the guitar tone was horrible. Way too much high end and gritty in a bad way. I suspect that the previous user had made some drastic changes to the normal amp settings.

Given the time constraints and the fact that I'm not sure what model amp will be available (though I'm confident it will be some variety of Marshall 100 watt head and 4x12 cabinet), any advice on how to dial in a basic cleanish tone by sight with good lows, mids and acceptable treble? There will be another guitarist, but he's the singer and plays sporadically, so its basically me and the bass player. I need to fill out the full guitar range.

I haven't owned a Marshall for over 30 years.

TIA!

First, play a chord to see if you even have to adjust anything. If you're not digging the tone, set everything at noon, Then adjust to taste in order: pre-volume (gain), bass, mids, treble, presence.

EQ~ straight up, open power chords D,A, open G, E. adjust to taste. for quick sound check at vol.

eventually you will have push the mids to about 2 o clock, roll the treb to 1030ish (depends on the cab).

You'll be fine, your fookin BadgerDave after all.

If you take a guitar from an air-conditioned case and let it warm up to the ambient temperature while you play you will lose your mind. Open all of your guitar cases as soon as you arrive to let your guitars get acclimated to the warmer air and humidity outdoors. Don't even bother tuning until after the guitars have been sitting outside for an hour.

Ken, while the Shishkov cases are top quality, I don't believe they are air-conditioned.

He must have heeded all of your advice, because Dave sounded terrific Saturday. No problem at all.
