carfish7 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 90's Fender Hot Rod Reissue. Based on a '62 reissue. This is a well-loved MIJ Strat with all the right stuff for those who want to rock it up a little. Flatter radius, big frets, OFR, Bridge humbucker, contoured neck heel, blah..... PAF Pro in the bridge stock, Fender singles mid and neck. Has a pull coil-tap on the middle tone pot and a TBX on the bottom one. Just a great playing Strat with tons of tonal variety. Body is H-S-H routed too, if you want to go all Dave Murray on the bit. Some dings and scratches, a bit of fret wear, and the treble-side trem post has been professionally repaired with a dowel and a strap due to the post rounding and making it non-stable. Just professionally set up at Vig guitars (he did the repair too) here locally with "9's" but I can get it set up with a different gauge if you prefer. I think it was due to the poplar body, might of been the PU anyway, I sold it.This could be just what the doctor ordered for one of you!

GLWTSI have a '50s version that I got from a Fender rep visiting a store in NC who said it was one of the first two or three made and shipped to Corona for approval by FMIC (he mentioned that some of the marketing guys were in transition to Scottsdale at that time, but he picked it up during a meeting re: product line rollout for that year). It had a Kahler Steeler and Kahler locking nut in place of the OFR and he claimed it was modded by Fender in Corona with an EMG 85-SA-SA set (I have no idea why they did this, as it forced me to remove the pickguard to change the damn battery). No push-pull, but it did come with the TBX control. I literally played the frets off of that guitar (at least 180 three+hour gigs) and it has some nice battle scars and aged patina on the maple neck/board. It needs a crown/polish and set up so badly that it has been relegated to its case for most of the last 20 years.

The flatter radius makes it feel different obviously, but it feels like most current Fender models that don't have a special carve.Some of the '62 Reissue models had a bit beefier profiles, and maybe a slight "D" aspect. This one, not so much. Ted could tell you about it too as it was his for many years.

I have one of those too - my '83 MIJ Squier Strat I bought new when they first hit the stores. You should get yours all spiffed up and play it again.

Even in front of a 1/2 dozen uninterested trailer park denizens, he still put on his "A" game. He was playing a white version of this that had been "Loven-ized", which to me looked like losing the tone controls and not much else?I think he knows EVERYONE here in town!
