A CA "Ding-Plus" repair this evening

Question

We had that thread a week ago talking about repairing a ding with CA, taped razor blade, grades of fine sanding and mesh.

Here's a "ding-plus" I fixed this evening on a Breedlove import that took a fall into a coffee table. This should make you feel a little better about putting a little dab of CA in a dimple/ding/peck of poly...

Luckily, no bracing/purfling damage. I went in through the endpin assembly (what a stroke of luck having a hole there), gently worked the top bump up as flush/back in grain as possible, smeared in a fingertip of wood glue into the backside for good measure, and went to CA town.

awesome! glad to see that it worked out well for you. The one issue I always have is that CA dries so fast, and can be hard to get rid of, so you've got to be careful with it.

Thanks for the kind words, really appreciated. FYI, I used a few applications of the StewMac "10" weight glue (thin). It dries fast but not too fast - I could swiftly absorb excess spots where I didn't want CA with a Q-tip, without getting fibers caught in the goop.

Nice work!

I have a love hate relationship with superglues. Sometimes just the right amount goes down and it bonds perfectly and you are left thinking how amazing the stuff is. On the other side of the coin is that time it ran somewhere unexpected, ended up on two of my fretting fingers and then they both stuck to my thumb. Nothing like cutting apart your fingers with a  razor blade the night before a gig.

Nail polish remover has acetone, which readily dissolves super glue. It also can dissolve the fat under your skin though, so use sparingly.

This is why I really like the applicators that stewmac sells. THey allow you to really control where and how much you get. The thin stuff can be a nightmare if it gets loose, but with proper control it works great.

This job resulted in me partially gluing my wedding ring to my ring finger at one point prepping for the job, but I keep a little acetone aside and handy (literally) just for that purpose. I swear, I go through more acetone ungluing myself from myself than I do within projects themselves haha.

And YES, YES, YES tbone, those bulb applicators from StewMac are the BOMB for thin CA work. Once you use them, you will NEVER go back to your old way.

My only gripe is I'd prefer if they were designed to stand up on their own, but I keep a few of these little homemade wooden "feet" handy just for this purpose.

Those things are great, especially if you want to mix up something with a pigment in it.

I'm lazy though, so I often just stick their "whip tips" right on the bottle. They are long thin and bendy, and you can really get the glue exactly where you want it.
