X-UFO, Laurence Archer on guitars (Hamer content)

I stumbled upon these guys today on Spotify:

It's a UFO cover band whose members were all, at some point, members of either the real thing or MSG.

Laurence Archer, their guitarist, played on two UFO albums (one studio, one live), both from 1992. He mimics Michael Schenker's style very convincingly, though he also has his own signature. He's good. He's actually so good I frankly think he's a better fit to UFO than Vinnie Moore.

As I mentioned above, the X-UFO live album, which I'm enjoying quite a bit, is on Spotify:

BTW, I saw Laurence Archer playing a Hamer shredder once (either a Chaparral or a Centaura, you guys will tell me) with UFO, but I cannot find a picture of him with his Hamer.

I did find however a pic of his two main guitars, and one is the aforementioned shredder --please see the attached image. :)

Given all the Schenker-related posts that have been popping around here lately, I thought you guys would like to know.

Cheers!

Meh. He was better with Phil Lynott in Grand Prix. Seems like a cash-grab, but I'd bet the songwriters are getting their piece of the action.

You're in a quite negative mood, man! :P What's wrong about trying to make a living by playing music?

Yeah, I knew Archer played with Phil Lynott, but never actually listened to it. Gotta check it out!

BTW, I licensed a Slayer song using mechanical licensing, and it costed me around 16 bucks for 2000 hard copies. That's cheap, so I guess these X-UFO guys just assumed the costs of playing those covers, and that was it.

Nothing wrong with being a working player whatsoever. That wasn't my assertion.

Guess it's the same as Steven Adler playing GNR songs in his tribute band? If ya can, why the hell not?

So, what's the black guitar above? A Centaura?

I have a live Grand Slam bootleg that's fantastic.  I'd listen to anything Archer plays on.  The two Stampede albums were really good too.  Hurricane Town is better.

Thanks for posting this.  I'd not thought about him for a while.

Oops. Grand SLAM. Grand Prix* was a NWOBHM band. Old age/drug abuse...yeah, that's the ticket!

*(Featuring Robin McCauley later of MSG. Gawd, will this Schenker bullshit NEVER end?)

I'll be doing my Little Prince here until getting a satisfying answer: :)

Early production Centaura, based on the reverse headstock and stadium logo. Nice maple board, which you see much less often.

+1

I could have written this post.  I've got some Grand Slam bootlegs too, and I've heard both the Stampede albums and they are really good.  I need to try to track those down on CD.
