bubs_42 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I have a couple of nice tele's but neither fit into the band. I would get that "Where's the Les Paul" look. I didn't want to lug around the LP so I bought a LP Jr, then things fell into place. That guitar sounds amazing so I then decided I had nothing to loose with hotroding one of my tele's. The Burton has a big neck and sounded great but I needed to get rid of the hum, and put some more punch in my tone. Phase one, pulled the pickups, replaced with a Dimarzio Chopper in the bridge, but i'm still waiting on the Cruiser Neck Pickup. Replace the bridge and go three saddle instead of 6, and replace the sloppy tuners with some locking tuners (yet to be purchased). I did bite the bullet and drill the holes in the bridge and the guitar to screw down the plate and make a solid anchor. Looks flawless and I am very happy with my work. Oh and I made that black pick guard from scratch, template and all. I needed a tele guard with a Strat Neck Pickup hole.
RobB Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Are those Graphtech saddles? Bubs, why do you insist on making the baby Jesus weep?
hamerhead Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 That one screw is off-center. I may have a set of Sperzels if you want them. ETA: You're a lot younger and more female than I thought.

ETA: You're a lot younger and more female than I thought. It is NOT off-center, one chamfer my be just slightly larger than the other. If you have a set of Sperzels let me me know, they now have (but not on website yet) Sperzel Direct Vintage Replacements. Olivia is 4 and she likes to help fix things. She changes her own batteries in toys and like to work with dad. Ella on the other hand is BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS.
murkat Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 I'm surprised you did not go ahead a drill holes for top loading, just in case for fine bubs tuning....

kizanski Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 I saw "James Burton Project" and was immediately transported 12 years past, when @Jeff R emailed me regarding James Burton's birthday party. Next thing you know it's mid August, I have full press credentials and I'm boarding a plane to Shreveport, Louisiana with my camera gear and enough clothes for 2 weeks (even though I was only staying 8 days. The Pelican State was going to pay my whole ride, save for booze. Luckily, I brought $500 spending money. Four days later I had sweated through ALL of my clothes, and the State of Louisiana was nice enough to pick up the $120 laundry bill from the New Orleans hotel we were staying in. @edgar_allan_poe ran into one of his student's lawyers in the hotel pool, @Willie G. Moseley spritzed his har [sic] before we went out to one of at least two dozen incredible meals, and @Hamerica and I played Cult songs on guitar, the whole while with me draped in a hotel towel. Jeff, Poe and I were assaulted by insanely large flying insects in the swamp, and @thecajunboy, Poe, Jeff and I had lunch with Tab Benoit before he forced moonshine on us and attempted to take us out on his speed boat. Thank Christ he couldn't get it to start. After that there was not one but TWO microbrewery tours and a flight home from Louis Armstrong Airport which beat the arrival of Hurricane Katrina by only about a half a day. None of this has much to do with guitars, but they're some of the fondest memories of my life. Then there was the time that @MCChris, Jeff and I rendezvoused in New Orleans four years later...
