Hey guys!  I am newish to posting here but I have lurked and am an active member at the gear page and mylespaul forums.  I am on the hunt for a great Junior and a Hamer is on my list.  One P-90, wraparound bridge.  I am on a budget so no special or limited runs like a BCR model.

All Hamers are "SPECIAL" and they are certainly "Special" to us here on the HFC.:)

Maybe I'll learn something by following this thread.  I thought that Hamer Juniors were fairly uncommon, if not all "special runs".  How many are not made from korina, for instance?

I thought they were routinely made in the late 90's and early 2000's.  I have seen Korina ones as well as Yellow and Cherry.  I think the Korina ones are the most common of them all though.  Those are the ones that pop up all the time.  There might not have been a ton of them made but I know the BCR one was limited to like 30 I think.

New Korina Jr.

The yellow, cherry and orange I've seen are the BCR run Juniors and are Mahogany not Korina.

A used Korina Jr. will come up once in awhile and on average range from $1300-$1600 asking prices but vary. $1300 is a great deal!

Good Luck on your quest. Took me awhile for me to find my Korina Junior and the stars align money wise but well worth the wait.

I know the solid ones were mahogany and not Korina but I am sure I have seen some in yellow and cherry that were standard early 2000 models. I thought the BCR was yellow only and had a bunch of other upgrades.  I saw the Korina model on Reverb and actually 2 of the offers on it are mine.  $1200-1300 seems to be the going rate at the moment and that guy is stuck at his price (even though he says best offer) because he made upgrades he wants to factor into the price.  I am not in a huge rush so don't want to pay him what is essentially the way top of the market right now if now over.  Especially since I don't care for those adjustable wrap tail bridge.  Thanks for the help!

(Side note: the matching set is amazing but I don't need two guitars)

The guitar you are making offers on is #3 of a limited edition of 6 so I doubt you'll get it for the price of a non LE Jr.

I think you need ask you if you want a hamer with upgrades or a stock one. I love the hamer's original, or with harware upgrades but the original components aside

I had no idea it was a LE.  What was different about these?

The link I sent previously is for the LE (limited edition) set #5.

So the #3 on Reverb is the double cut Korina Junior and out there somewhere is the single cut Korina Special.

Discussed here previously there were only six pairs made, the prototype pair and sets #1-#5.

Finding one for $1200 is going to take some time if it even happens. These sell quickly @ $1300 when they come up and that's a great price. If you ever play a Hamer Korina Junior then you will understand that they are worth much more than they sell for. Lots of tone from that one pickup! Again good luck.

The BCR Juniors were mahogany and were done in several small runs of maybe a half dozen in each.  They had the "correct" headstock thickness, strip tuners, and the runs were in "real" TV Yellow, Vintage Orange (which looked JUST like a beautifully faded cherry '50s Jr.), and Cherry Trans, IIRC.  There were a few minor variations from the stock Hamer Korina model.  I have never played one that wasn't absolutely PERFECT.  They were spec'd out and executed very well, and if you want a true '50s Jr. vibe, that's probably the best shot.  The very few people who own those probably don't sell them very often, and when those DO sell, they're probably closer to $2k than $1,500.

The regular Hamer Korina Jr. model was slightly different - thicker headstock, different tuners, Wilkinson adjustable stoptail and Duncan P-90s stock.  I'd say $1,500 is probably a reasonable selling price for one of those in 2017 if you can find one.

They're all great little firebreathers.

I made the mistake of selling mine (#13) about 7 or 8 years ago, but I was fortunate to have gotten it back last year.

I won't make that mistake a second time.

I had both a Korina and BCR for a while.  It was tough letting go of the Korina because of the beautiful neck - nice and chunky profile (sold to help fund an Artist Custom). Neck was about an inch thick all the way up, and the guitar was really light and resonant.

Of course the BCR is beautiful too, and I'm a sucker for TV yellow.

Here's a shot of the headstock differences that Chris mentions above.  I was test fitting a set of TonePros plate tuners here on the Korina in place of the original Schallers.  Worked great, but I didn't end up permanently mounting them.

When you find one it will have been well worth and energy exerted on the search. I also have a Hamer Import XT series Junior that I bought to hold me over.until I could obtain a USA. Very nice sounding/performing guitar and can be had for $300 or less, but it's not a wrap tail but it still sounds and plays great.

Picture of my two.

So for those who are familiar with the various JR's, did all of them have 50's type deep necks?  I know several hammer models had thinner necks in the 90's, would that include korina jr of the 90's?

Best of all worlds. Not for sale.

But good luck with your search. Hamers are by far the best bang-for-the-buck Juniors out there.

Have you ever seen an ad for an actual hammer and it took you a second to realize it's not misspelled?

From now on if I'm framing a wall it will be a "Eastwing hamer" I'm using, a hot chick will be known as "a real hamer", and if I'm drinking beer on a really scorching day I'll be "hamering" a 6 pack (or 12)!

I shant edit my mispelling in the post above so my shame can live on forever!!!!!!   To bad I didn't learn to spell hamer with only 1 M until after the tramp stamp tattoo.........................................................................................(jk)

Now back to the JR discussion,  are all HAMER jr necks thick like vintage carve or were their thinner necks on juniors from the 90"s???????
