Buying a Hamer from Canada

Question

Anybody purchase a Hamer from a Canadian vendor ? Would there be any fees involved after the sale like import or duty tax ?  Any hidden fees at all ? Or would I only pay for the item, shipping and sales tax as if bought here in the USA ?

It's been a while, but it used to be best to ship thru the mail. Less border hassle, check the returning to USA box.

Depending on the shipper you could face brokerage fees in the $100-$150 range. UPS is probably most likely to send a bill, and Canada Post/USPS least likely.

Ditto that for DHL+Canada.

I bought 2 Cali's from Canadian owners a few years back and got zapped with fees from Fed Ex for shipping into US.  :(

Well, took the plunge and finally got word that it's coming via Canadian and US postal service.  If worse comes to worst, guess I gotta bite the bullet if it happens.

Thanks to all for your input.

Hi @tweed, sorry for the late reply on this. I'm in Canada, I've bought a few USA Hamers for the site. I've always got hit by a "brokerage fee" from the shipper. I guess for getting it through customs? Super annoying but what can you do?

For a $1000 guitar (Canadian dollars), the fee was ballpark $100.

Hope you don't get dinged with it, but maybe my experience can help you know what to expect while you're waiting for it to be shipped.

Take it easy! Rob
