tomteriffic Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 Now $800 + ship. **Amp is sold* Guitar still looking for a home. Eons ago, I was drooling at the GMP (?) site back when they took outside work for paint jobs. I saw a double-cut Gibson wraptail LP Special that had a cool black-on-white Beatles graphic on it. Fell in love with it. I believe it was for our favorite oddball guitarist. Shortly thereafter I came across a black '93 Hamer P-90 Special and decided to turn it into a color-reversed version of that one I'd seen. So, off it went to Greg Platzer for conversion from a Stop/Tuna to a wraptail. That was a beautiful Pigtail lightweight alloy job that had been subtly machined on top so that an unwound third would intonate correctly. Tone Pros studs too! An extended search found me a guy in England who could do the Beatles graphic and he nailed it. It's a vinyl decal, for lack of a better term. Been on there for years now. Now it's got the extra "wraptail rude" going and a cool graphic to boot. Still, underneath it all, it's a lived-in P-90 Special with loads of dings, doinks and oopses. Amazingly, none of it is through to the wood. Greg dowelled the old stoptail holes and touch-up painted the wood but did not try to hide the surgery. But the wraparound sets it apart tonally and the graphic, well, I think it's cool, otherwise I wouldn't have done it. I've bought it, sold it, and bought it back. Minimal fretwear, BTW. But now it really does need a new home. Hamer branded case in very good shape. I'm thinking, in this market, maybe $800 plus shipping? Argue with me. CONUS only, cashier's check, MO or PP F&F. The amp has a bit of a story too. I have two Super Champ XD's, you can take your pick. One I bought new, the other like new from our own Jim Gale. I actually used them in stereo for exactly one jazz gig. Both have had the two essential mods to turn them from "OK" small amps into real-deal great sounding amps. Those are: Proper biasing of the 6V6's. From the factory, Fender biases them waaay cold. Bringing them up to a more normal bias warms them up sonically. The other is putting in a better speaker, either an Eminence Ragin' Cajun, or, if you prefer the Redcoat series, a Ramrod. Side by side they sound very similar. I'd grab one or the other without even looking. Both have slipcovers as well. So, take your pick, I'll keep the other and be happy. It's a great grab and go amp that punches way above its weight. Speaking of weight, it's gonna be $pendy to ship, so I'm open to a meet 'n' greet within a reasonable distance. Let's call it the old HFC standard, $350 + ship, same terms. tommy p Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Tom sold me that Beatles Special a few years ago and I played it at quite a few gigs of my Cheap Trick tribute band, always on Day Tripper and usually a few more songs. When my guitar inventory became unmanageable (which is really still is) I sold it back to him. Nice working band guitar.

Back then, sustain blocks were unobtanium so I went with a wraptail to gain the extra real estate on the guitar. Thanks Chris! Argue with me on the price. I'll even do the HFC Admin markup!😅
JGale Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 BONUS! I bought the Super Champ from our own Super Champ, Feynman.
Feynman Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 And I only bought it because of the demo videos and the praise from Harry65, Brooks, Hamerhead...and others. This is an HFC born-and-bred Super Champ. The circle of life. I like shimmery cleans, and I had it in my room directly beside my Princeton Reverb. Chose the blackface preset (#4?), added maybe reverb at 3-6, tweaked some tone knobs...and it was hard to hear the difference. It was like getting a Princeton Reverb and several other amps, but with $1000 left in your pocket. Crap, I want it now. Someone buy this. Thanks. Watch this:
GuitarGuy65 Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 Off topic a bit... I've got a Beatles-related paint job on a guitar too, an early '90's Fender Prodigy that my buddy custom-painted for me. The back has the full sub on it. He did a great job!

Blue Meanies messing with the tuning stability of your tremolo; very fitting! 😉 Very cool, love it!
django49 Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Y'all inspired me to pull out the XD last night for the "rock" class. Which meant folks were wanting to get rude and loud.Brought along my tilt back shop built stand which helps with both sound direction and is a sort of cheap ass "Thiele" substitute. It really does project and that 10" Ragin' Cajun did good. Worked around voicings 3, 8 and 9 and held my own against the "Take this Marshall tone" crew. Highly recommended amp! Big sound in a small package.
tommy p Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Damn, @tomteriffic, I wasn't thinking when I posted those pics of me playing your guitar. I didn't mean to devalue it. Let me know if you want me to take them down. 😆😆😆

tomteriffic Posted April 8, 2023 Author Posted April 8, 2023 Bumpity on the guitar. Make me a reasonable offer!
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Amp arrived safely, and it is a complete blast. Sounds great on every setting. Thanks to everyone whose glowing descriptions convinced me to get it!
