RobB Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 Con-fusion. Nothing like adding Jack Bruce to confuse things even further.
Brooks Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 Despite their importance in the development of jazz rock fusion, I can't listen to the early Lifetime (or most Mahavishnu and Miles electric) recordings; it all seems very rambling and unfocused, even for fusion. However, Tony Williams New Lifetime (along with Jeff Becks Blow By Blow/Wired/There & Back, Al DiMeolas Midnight Sun/Casino/Elegant Gypsy, etc) I still listen to regularly.
RobB Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 “Believe It” is a killer album. When I heard Holdsworth with Tempest I sort of naturally gravitated to his fusion stuff. I draw the line at Soft Machine, though. Yuck!
Steve Haynie Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 There are times when this kind of music fascinates me. Then there are times that it is less pleasing and more appreciated for its technicality.
JGale Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Yeah babee! That shit ate me up for years. Do not regret a single late night.
ARM OF HAMER Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Some of this is hard to wrap your head around....................it does seem at times, maybe all the time to some listeners to make no sense or have a sense of direction musically. I have listened to in my time on the planet most everything jazz or jazz rock free jazz or fusion whatever you want to term it. Some of it is not "Digestible." music, to many, including myself. But I have tried to keep an open mind about where the artist is coming from and what he is trying to convey. The early Lifetime is one of those head scratchers as to what it is they are doing.............is this really music? I have been a lifelong follower of John Mclaughlin and his music in all its forms but I have my favorites. The later Tony Williams with Allan Holdsworth is a better pick as far as what Lifetime evolved into. I can listen to free jazz and get something out of it, I might not care for the music itself but can appreciate the effort that went into it. But there is music out there I just don't understand but maybe that's my shortcoming. This IS an example of something I just can't relate to..................maybe some people can get this, but I just can't, is it art?, is it music? is it theater? or ??????. IF you can listen to this and get something positive out of it your a better man than I 'am.
Steve Haynie Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 In anyone is interested there is a 6 CD box set collection of Yoko Ono music called Onobox. Just load your CD changer before leaving home and let it all play through. All the cockroaches, spiders, mice, rats, squirrels, raccoons, burglars, and neighbors will be gone by the time you get back.

I thought it attracted cockroaches, spiders, mice, rats, squirrels, raccoons, and other vermin.
